Those of you who have been following me since the beginning are probably preparing your Back to the Future "Hey I've seen this one before" memes right now, as Nintendo has once again decided to lash out en masse with draconian IP protection.

I'm sure you guys don't need to know what these posts specifically are, to know exactly what content Nintendo is targeting. A certain game that, after being dead for so long, is finally getting a "Prime 4" entry.

Most of these are just WIP posts, so they're not a critical loss. However, naturally, a few of these are actual video releases as well. These videos are going to be unlocked and released for free on my website. I'll update this post with the "notify patrons of this change" option when everything has been cleaned up and the videos released.

Since the videos will be entirely free, and no longer supported in any way by Patreon, then they will be outside of Patreon's responsibility. Similarly, any future Samus videos will be developed without the support of Patreon. I don't want to put Patreon in this position again, and I don't want to deal with this shit again. So all future Samus videos will just immediately be released for free directly to my website. They won't touch Patreon's infrastructure in any way.

I apologize for the inconvenience this causes you all. Trust me, it causes me inconvenience, too. Nothing I'm not used too, though. As I said, this isn't the first time Nintendo has done this to me.

At least Patreon have the courtesy to actually ask me to delete the infringing content first. When Nintendo did this to my first Tumblr account, Tumblr just immediately banned the account without any prior notice.

The way Patreon is handling this, as with all of the other ways they've handled problems I've had in the past, just reinforces my respect for them. I encourage everyone to not direct their frustration and grievances at Patreon here. They're just doing what they're legally obligated to do as a consequence of Nintendo pulling this trigger. And they're doing it with far more grace and respect than other companies would.

UPDATE:

All of the Samus videos have been moved off Patreon and are freely available to watch on my website. Patreon is no longer involved in any capacity with the viewing of any Samus content, past or future.

You can watch the 1080p videos publicly over on my website.

sorry to hear that, what can we do to help?

Damn, well Nintendo is just jealous that fans create better stuff with their stuff.

Patreon's been policing its creators for off-site content lately- see Slugbox for an example. You're probably fine for now, but don't be surprised if they keep hounding you.

THE SACRED TEXTS!! lol I like your view on things. You're very optimistic and innovative. I believe in you homie

It has been against Patreon's rules for literal years now to use Patreon access to provide off-site links to content that wouldn't be allowed on Patreon proper. It's important to note that the rule is for using Patreon access. EG locking the link to a Discord server behind a Patreon paywall. Patreon doesn't buy the argument of "well the content itself isn't on Patreon - just access to the content!". Which is why I am pointedly releasing everything publicly. No gating whatsoever. Patreon is completely removed from the equation for these particular pieces.

I think that team Nintendo and Patreon were fapping to this prior to making the copyright claim

Seems like a lot of work just to stay on Patreon. They're not your friends. Past actions alone have made that clear.

Are we getting information here that something has been released on your site or is this forbidden too?

RemnantRyku

No surprise. Nintendo loves slapping claims when it comes to there characters.

Which is why this doesn't really bother me. I've known for years I'm poking the bear with Samus productions. If Nintendo never decided to spontaneously resurrect Metroid with a new Prime game, I'd like be able to get away with it. But at the end of the day, it is their IP, and so they have final say on what to do with it. I may not like it, but I'm not exactly in a position to argue it. I've never been interested in making a profit off my work - so long as I can fund my productions and keep my bills paid, I'm satisfied. Which is why I have no qualms with making my Samus content, past and future, free for all to consume. It's unfortunate I can't recoup my costs on them, but virtually all of my projects run well enough into the black that their excess can cover the costs. It's not ideal, but as long as I'm not running in the red, then it's acceptable. With that being said, I am entertaining the idea of continuing the Phazon hexology under a new name, and adapt the heroine into an original character with a similar background and aesthetic (and voice, of course!). Get out from under the shadow of Nintendo owning the IP, and release Patreon from the burden of liability. It's not like there's a lot in the Phazon series that is intimately tied to the Metroid series anyways. The series is effectively an original work anyways, and Hiveship even moreso, with Ordagon and I designing and building from scratch an entirely unique cast of aliens for it. I don't think people will be too bent out of shape if their voluptuous latex-suited blonde heroine goes by a different name. Not saying I will. Just something I am considering.

So no Hiveship with Sammy? :( Im sorry if i read it in the wrong context.
