My theory for the pinky is that it has something to do with the "red string of fate", I've seen it a few times mentioned and showed in various anime and it was usually tied to the pinky, so she might be wondering about her own fate? But that's just my guess

You know a story is good when the side characters make you wish they had a spinoff. I wish we got to see more of the lucky couple! btw, the soldier guy is the same soldier who saved the village from being exterminated last episode. So he seems decent at least!

So far all the concubines are foreign princesses almost sent as pseudo hostages, but there should be some local ones trying to become empress or make political moves for their clans, so I wonder if we'll see that side of things.

Xiao means little it Chinese. Usually used by parents/teachers as a term of affection. Like Xiao Roshi or Xiao Sherra. In one the Manhua I read Yang Kai the main character is often referred to as Xiao Kai by his family/master's. Its rare since he's always out adventuring but gives a nice "oh he can be soft when he comes home" vibe.

Damn, concubine Fuyou walking out the palace gave me chills. Kevin Penkin helped with the music (Made in Abyss, Tower of God OSTs) and it builds tension so well. We see Fuyou descending stairs, passing by ornate architecture (exiting the life of nobility). She's surrounded by handrails, almost like she's trapped. Then the shot of Fuyou seeing the officer has her situated in the shadows/darkness, him in the light. The montage shows them enjoying nature, free from constraints - as opposed to this artificial & concrete palace environment. "Would I be a bad woman if I said I envied her?" was such a tragic line. Naganuma, Norihiro is the director & according to MAL has done a lot of storyboarding for AoT, Vivy, Ancient Magus Bride, Dr. Stone, NHK, occasionally directing single episodes. Easily in my top 50 standalone eps of anime. "if love makes a woman beautiful, what kind of drug would it make?" I can't even begin to decipher, but sounds deep as shit ngl

Apparently this soldier is the same soldier that stopped the village from getting killed because of the poison accusation. And his reward for him saving the entire village was this wish to get the fuyou. It's not noticeable but in the manga her pinky is supposed to look deformed because of an injury. They probably cut it out coz it might be too nasty for tv?

There is like a 1000 others and he already got two that he visits often. Honestly i think it it just as much polite to show up for a princess performance at least once and hey she fell so excuse to leave and not waste time

Her pinky nail is deformed that's why. the animation didn't show it well. also, it's not explained in the anime but in the manga, maomao figured it out because the princess didn't have injured feet even though she was supposedly climbing the throny walls barefoot while sleepwalking.

Not all the concubines are gifted. There are about 1000 or so. Most high ranking ones are brought into the palace from families of high status. But even serving girls have a chance to become concubines if you catch the emperor’s eye. Also not all serving girls are kidnapped. Some are, some see it as a way out of bad family situations and some even join because it pays well. The LN definitely do a better job with exposition but as the show goes on, I’m sure they’ll explain how the palace works better

Roshi stated it perfectly at the end exactly what I was thinking the whole episode Fuyou couldn't hit the two step and he was like nah I'm good 😭. Glad she got her fairytale ending though I feel like the emperor maybe sensed she wasn't with it just a little bit and went on his way cause he got like a hundred others but maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

10 bucks for around 17-20 reactions a week, rounding down to 4 weeks a month, so lets take 17 x 4 = 68 reaction videos, the minimum length for the reactions is 20 mins (they often do react to shows over 30 minutes to an hour and do movies around 1:30-2:00 hours) and taking 68 x 20, you get around 1,360 minutes of entertainment in a month, lastly lets say you won't like half of the shows they react to, that still at least 650 minutes of entertainment and thaths not counting for the hundreds of other reactions that you'll gain access to, they've reacted to at least 100+ shows at this point which you gain access to so that even more to add to the hours of entertainment. Moral of the story is... 10 bucks is very cheap, some other content creators charge like 20+
