Even if she doesn't get harmed by the poison, it will still have some side effects. Like as she mentioned, poisons will have a weird taste or will cause some numbness or will smell weird and you can't build resistance to every poison. You can build resistance to animal/plant based poisons but not to metal based poisons like lead or mercury. And for some poisons even if you build resistance to it, it will still cause damage when you have long term exposure. The most common example to this is alcohol. You can build a tolerance and get drunk less, but you will still damage your liver in the long term.

So it wasn’t just that they were burning the wood and causing it to give off poisonous fumes. But they also used the wood as chopsticks, it’s a bit like using a leaf to wipe and finding out you used Poison Ivy 😅

Just a quick disclaimer (even though its fiction) poisons don't work that way, its literally impossible to build up a tolerance to poisons and saying that you can is cap as fuck. Love the show though

That's not entirely correct. Obviously the way this portrays it is outlandish, and you can't just build a general tolerance to all poison. But for some toxins that stimulate the immune system it's possible to slowly build a tolerance with careful repeated exposure to doses far below the ED50 (effective median dose), which can result in the formation of antibodies specific to that toxin. Now OF COURSE this is a severe oversimplification. There are tons of factors that go into this and it requires the person in question to have both a perfectly healthy immune system and precise knowledge of a toxin's effects and dosage thresholds. But building up a tolerance to some poisons is not just cap.

She never actually claimed she has tolerance to ALL poisons tho. Only the ones she's tested on herself etc (so various snake & other poisonous shit like toads or w/e, and misc plants & shrooms etc that are used to make all types of poisons, which make up some of the most common poisons used for shit like assassination etc). But yeah you can't build up resistance to some toxins, especially ones that are derived from minerals (such as lead & mercury, I'm sure there's a bunch of others but those are the most common ones due to their specific usage in various household items & traditional Chinese medicine respectively), and even slow-acting poisons would be something Maomao can't pretty much resist (other than to stop CONSOOMing the thing that does have slow acting poison, & getting the shit out of the system & doing other things to bulk up the body to try to recover)
