Episode 9 explaination Antonio was so obessed with his mission that he was willing to take over for Ophelia in order to show people her true potential because he thinks that she is capable of more even though the audience is happy with her singing he isn't because he thinks it's not what she if fully capable of. So he thinks that by taking over for her he is completing his mission of helping Ophelia shine, but after taking over as her he notices that he isn't happy with what he is doing. And in his final moments he realizes that everything that he has done was because he was jealous of others seeing her sing when he only wanted her to sing. He tricked himself into thinking he was doing it for his mission and it was to show people what she was truly capable of but really it was that he was jealous of others hearing her. Matsumoto notices the parallel between him and Antonio during their fight both were so obsessed with their mission that they thought that everyone else's missions were inferior to their's like "Vivy making people happy with her singing" both were willing to do anything to accomplish their missions even going as far as destroying their partners or doing everything by themselves. Remember Matsumoto wanted to stop Ophelia's suidice by himself because he didn't trust Vivy, but after fighting Antonio he realizes that he was wrong and remembers that his missions is to carry not the singularity project together with Vivy. Also, at the end when before Diva went away she told him that she knows that he thinks her missions is insignificant but Matsumoto tells her that he now knows that she is true to her missions and both their missions are equal. He joined Toak because he hated how he "a human" suffered from the death of an Ai who deviated from his mission of playing piano to saving humans and Vivy reminds him of his teacher so that's why he is obsessed with her he doesnt want other humans to suffer because of an Ai like he did so he thinks that they should be destroyed. As for his teacher's funeral he was disgusted because his teacher was treated like a human by receiving a funeral but at the funeral they treated him like an Ai by showing his memories treating him like a security camera. So he is disgusted because at one hand they want to treat him as a human but at the sametime he is being treated as an Ai so he is confused as to what he was or what his teachers and others wanted him to be. If he's an Ai just treat him as an Ai and don't integrate them into human territory.

You guys missed an end credit scene for episode 8. Would've been good to watch it before watching this episode, but great reaction nonetheless.

Windragon

I hope it makes sense and that it will enhance your Vivy experience. Sorry for grammar

Damion Middleton

Yeahhhhh? Roshi and his Dance Moves lol 🕺🏾

Redback

I really enjoyed Vivy but I just finished the first cour for 86 and Its even better imo, the plot is better and the animation is on par. Also the OST is done by the composer for AOT

godUsoland

One of the best anime's this year!

wavyesper

Agreed bro, I read the light novel after the first episode and it's so fucking good. can't wait for them to react to it

radeb

yeah, objectively 86 is slightly better than Vivy, visually tho i prefer Vivy. The ending of 86 is just incredible Sawano Hiroyuki never disapoints.

Windragon

Not even close, Vivy is way better than Vivy for me but 86 is also decent.

Oscar Barcelo

Really well done with the explanation, was also going to mention that isn’t it irregular for an AI to deviate or change from their original mission which is what Matsumoto and Vivy are doing?

Redback

@williamlee 86 is definitely on par if not better plus it has a second cour to come and confirmed for multiple seasons

Storm King

Don't get me started on 86...... I still haven't recovered from it. Im feeling like Vivy in the sunken place right now

Windragon

Also, forgot to mention that Matsumoto realized that Yugo had information and technology from the future that are more advanced than his. So based on this, we can assume that whoever gave Yugo all this information must be from the future, know about the singularity project, know about Diva/ Vivy spilt personality, and know about Yugo and his relationship to Vivy. Lastly, remember at the beginning Yugo said that not even Matsumoto could delete the virus.

Stivens Salazar

I can't say with confidence that this is a top 10 single episode of all time, but man is it up there. I've rewatched this episode so many times

Daniel Borrego

i always get a chuckle out of matsumoto preventing ophelia from committing suicide by killing her first ha ha ha

Thamor

The fight animations have been so good in this show. Vivy vs her sister in space hotel was another amazing fight.

JsnSkg

Roshi dancing in the beginning lmfao.

JsnSkg

Wit Studio constantly flexing.

JsnSkg

I like Vivy way more. Not that I dislike 86, not by any means. I just like Vivy's vibe and theme a whole lot more.

Dune

Those performances be hitting.

Reign

LOL 86 is hot garbage it doesnt even come close to vivy. It was the biggest snoozefest and let down of the season.

AcolorfulZebra

Not exactly. Due to the AI having the ability to think freely , they also have the ability to interpret what their mission entails. Mastumoto's mission is to prevent the AI/Human in the future by altering events in the past, therefore he can pretty do anything as long as it is for the purpose of stopping the war in the future. As for Vivy, Her mission is "Make everyone happy with her singing" which she can't do if everyone is dead. So she can contort her mission by saying, "By saving this person's life, they have the potential to be a fan of mine in the future, and therefore I can make them happy with my singing." She can expand that horizon even further by saying that since she is going to still exist 100 years from now in the future, anything she does to prevent the war and stop all those people from dying, allows her the potential to make them happy in the future. It really goes to show how even though a person may only have one goal/purpose in life, their realm of possibility can broadened by saying that "doing this will allow me to accomplish my mission, even if it is still further down the road." This concept is why I love this show so much, as it shows a single mission in life can allow a purpose so much more than they really think they are capable of. Long story short, Vivy is saving humanity to make them happy with her singing instead being limited to only singing when she is told. Fuckin 10/10 show for me

This ending song was my favorite in the entire series besides the very last one of course
