This a study drawing I have done in preparation for an upcoming illustration. The illustration is going to have an Old School-style chopper with a Panhead engine, since I have never drawn a Panhead before I thought it wise to study the motor first before I tried to render it on the final working surface. When I do these studies I do not attempt to create a perfect representation of the object; however I will critique the finished drawings and make notations on where I made mistakes. These serve as reminders when I working on the final picture. Even though I had multiple photo references in front of me I still did not place the cylinders close enough to each other in the perspective sketch. Also I made the cylinders too short so my cooling fins count does not match the side view of the engine. Now I know to be careful of these facts when I start on the final piece. In this way I can use my mistakes as a learning tool.
