The Mountain (Patreon)

One of the biggest, literally, players in my Equestria dreamscape. The Realm of Dragons is a collection of independent territories. Each of these territories is ruled over by a Great Dragon who has many lesser dragons and younger drakes living in its territory. These lesser dragon have sworn to serve and protect their Great Dragon's realm and hoard; in return for its protection the lesser dragons are able to hunt in that territory and collect and protect their own hoards. The Great Dragons in turn serves on the Grand Council which decides how the Realm deals with its neighbors beyond its borders and settles disputes between territories. However in this feudalistic system there is one territory that has only one dragon living within its borders. It can only support one. High in the alpine peaks lives a Great Dragon know as The Mountain. One of the most ancient of dragons The Mountain has no need of lesser dragons to protect its hoard for it has none. It has lived for so long it no longer needs gems or gold to prove its stature. It needs no other dragon to protect its realm. Its very existence gives it all the authority it needs. It has lived long enough to rivers change their course and mountains be ground down to dust. And still it lives.
