There was so so much setup for Season 5 throughout the series. So many scenes that were taken as just character moments that ultimately hinted at what was going on that lead us to this point. Camina Drummer is just such a fantastic character, and Cara Gee knocked this role out of the park. And you gotta love the polyam belter fam. Especially the scene with Drummer and Oksana. Re: Martian ages, they live a hell of a long time. That old bartender on Pallas station is probably a decade or two younger than the admiral, even though he looks a lot older, just because Martians live so much longer. Belters tend to live to their mid-60s, Earthers around 120, and Martians longer than that iirc. Alex definitely got played in his meet-up with Babbage, but he also has no real idea what's going on while we do. In his POV, he probably just yammered on with quirky tales for a while and nailed it in getting info on the ship she's taking off on. Whereas Babbage got everything she wanted and needed from Alex. Season 4 was a bit inconsistent, but I don't think there was much of any significant way around it given what they needed to accomplish. it's definitely a season that is better on a rewatch due to that. The Expanse is a set of trilogies, and Season 4 is so much set-up for seasons 5-6, if sneakily so in a number of instances. It does a lot of 'showing' about the depreciating position of belters in the system with the projected opening of the ring gates, really highlighting the boiling frog scenario we've been in since the start of the series. Marco's plans are loathsome, but ultimately also made inevitable by the actions of those in power and the refusal to take the proverbial boot off the neck of the belters despite many opportunities to do the right thing over the years. That's paying off now in season 5 and really driving so much of the tension.

About bad at making mirrors in the future, I imagine it would be very difficult to make good mirrors in space. In order to create flat glass (window panes, mirrors, etc) it's actually floated over a bath of molten tin. Without gravity you'd probably have to rely on blown glass (like they did in ye' old days) which results in distorted wavy panes. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate choice, but if it is, that's amazing attention to detail.
