This is going to be a big week - and a long week - with a vast array of goodies. The good news is that I've managed to escape the white room with two potted plants and it's highly likely that we'll be putting together a DF Direct Special on the leaked PlayStation 5 specifications and if all goes to plan there will be some supplementary information that isn't yet in the public domain.

Beyond that, there's a lot of big games coming this week.

* Alex will be taking a look at Horizon Forbidden West on PC this week, before moving on to Dragon's Dogma 2. Because Horizon will take priority, we're looking to get an early look at the PC version of Dragon's Dogma 2 into the console-focused video - so expect an Alex appearance in that #content.

* Oliver has been tapped to produce our Dragon's Dogma 2 coverage. Expect the full lowdown on features, performance and platform comparisons! Assuming our plans come together for the PS5 Pro Direct special, he'll be editing that too.

* Tom is the man looking at Rise of the Ronin on PlayStation 5 - we've got a packed schedule so expect that towards the end of the week.

* John has been a little under the weather but is just about done with the Outcast: A New Beginning sponsored content. This is not a review but rather a retrospective look at the original, how the new game came to be and how it's been realised on modern systems. We'll be talking about console versions and performance in this week's DF Direct.

* Rich (ie me) will be continuing the handheld PC saga, but is also likely to handle the PS5 Pro coverage. I'm kinda hopeful that Sony will be timing a public disclosure with GDC bearing in mind the volume of stuff it has now disclosed to developers, but no promises there! I'm reminded of the buzz for PS4 Pro at GDC 2016 but official confirmation didn't arrive until September!

* Will continues to do a great job adding additional DF value to Eurogamer - did you see his excellent review of the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM? I wish we had the bandwidth and manpower to cover this on video too but alas, we don't. Here's the piece: https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-asus-rog-swift-oled-pg32ucdm-review-the-best-gaming-monitor-we-have-tested

Do let us know of any projects/topics you think we should be taking a look at, but in the meantime I really hope you have a great week.

I wasn't very interested in the PS5 Pro until I saw the details of the new rumored specs, which seem completely wild to me. Moving to a "33.5 TFLOP" GPU means that not only is the GPU bigger, but it's almost assuredly using RDNA 3 instead of RDNA 2 (the RX 6950 XT has only 23.6 TFLOPs). This poses more questions like: Will the PS5 Pro have chiplets for the memory controllers, or is the die still monolithic considering the interface is the same bandwidth, just with faster memory? Will the extra 10% CPU clockspeed boost do anything other than take a sub-30 FPS game to a locked 30 FPS (for things like GTA 6)? Will the extra audio performance do anything at all (will devs really have extra audio features for the Pro)? How will "backwards compatibility" work within the same generation of consoles? Will PSSR actually provide something like DLSS for the PS5, or will it just offload the upscaling so games perform a little better? Will you be able to talk to an AI Ramen vendor that leverages the new AI accelerator? How much more performance will you get by default if you run a regular PS5 game on a PS5 Pro, without any software modifications considering everything won't scale evenly on a new architecture? The RX 6700 is ~$150 cheaper than the RX 7700 XT (the two closest comparable GPUs), so does that pretty much confirm that the PS5 Pro is a $600-$700 console? Considering the rumor says the PS5 Pro will also have a detachable disk drive, are you expecting a diskless PS5 and one with a drive included? Considering how awful Sony has been recently with supporting PS5-adjacent products (PSVR2 & the Portal), do you see Sony putting anything into marketing the PS5 Pro or supporting it with extra software, or do you see Sony heaving the PS5 Pro to market with little fanfare and seeing if it will sink or swim on its own?

2024-03-29 05:54:51 Hey DF, have a PC question you may the solution for. I've been having stuttering issues with many games while my fps is capped at 40fps. Some kind a frame pacing issues, even though these games are not known for having that issues (games like AC Mirage, Avatar FP, Alan Wake 2 , System Shock and so on). As said stable 40fps without dropping single frame but game stuttering anyway. First i thought it was my Oled C9 issues, which have vrr. But sadly its happening even on my main gsync monitor. My gsync is set properly and all of that stuff. Its this some known issue you encountered?
