Stayed up until midnight to watch, can't wait!

A bit funnier than the pilot because the show was able to get right to the jokes as opposed to having to explain the backstory of the characters. The idea of using a boring city council meeting as a premise for an episode is kind of genius in its own right. This episode made me a fan of the show for sure.

I'm really enjoying these reactions and this is certainly Josh's kind of thing judging by how many times his face lights up at the goofiness and fantasy elements.

Love WWDITS. Jackie Daytona FTW! Also, IMO Natasha Demetriou is the MVP in this show. The whole cast is so insanely good, but I'd only seen Demetriou on Cats Does Countdown before this so I was so impressed by how completely bonkers and OTT her performance is as Nadja. The only slight flaw for me is Guillermo, who's a bit of a wet blanket of a character, but everyone else is bringing it with a stupid level of comedy commitment.

Saul

Good to hear. There are some very funny episodes coming up.

She was great as the make up person on This Time with Alan Partridge. That prolonged mocking laughter..

That is true, pilot episodes always tend to not be as good as others. I have been excited for this show for a while =]

The show is written by Jermaine Clement, one half of Flight Of The Conchords, another show we have on the poll.. He is one of the main characters in it along with Rhys Derby who was the lead in a new show, Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max.. (or should I just say 'Max' now?) another really good show. Not a British show though, although it is based on 'The Gentleman Pirate', a pirate from England, born into aristocracy but gave it all up because he wanted to be a pirate.. very successfully I might add.. Mixing piracy with fine wine and silk gowns 🤣😂

I watched a fair bit of Our Flag Means Death and it was quite gentle. A bit too gentle, not many laugh out loud moments. But I hope it gets a chance to grow. Streaming sites are so chop-happy these days. HBO usually isn't as bad as, say, Netflix, but they're under new ownership so they've started canceling a bunch of shows too. I've no idea whether to get invested in something these days because shows get canceled in ridiculously short time periods. They get canceled almost straight away, it's just crass. 1899 for example, a Netflix sci-fi show with a load of hype, written by the same people who made a very complex sci fi show which itself took a while to grow by word of mouth, so Netflix surely must have known what they were getting when they commissioned them to create a new IP...but they canceled 1899 about a month after the first season had finished. Based on who knows what metrics, since they never reveal any of the data underlying their decisions. If I was writing a long form TV drama I'd be very careful about going anywhere near Netflix. The one that I was genuinely sad to see get canned was the MODOK Marvel spin off with Patten Oswalt. That was very underrated. But all it got was one season. It's a ruthless landscape for TV shows at the moment.

@Saul Apologies for commenting on a 3 day old post, but I really recommend you check out Natasha Demetriou's skit 'Internet Nails'. It's brilliant.

Saul

thanks jay, never too late to recommend good stuff
