Nu'Shadoe

The ending is finally here 🙌 Shout out to my girl Sasha, this series was never the same without ya

Syuri

I like seeing the different interpretations of the baby scene personally I thought they were tryna sacrifice it

mwwq1

The extra diolauge saved this ending, I was one of the ending haters but the anime is the GOAT

Syuri

desperation idk tbh maybe its just cuz i think the worst before anything else

Mirza

I hated the ending like a lot of people when I read it in the manga, but for some reason seeing it fleshed out in the anime form I like it a lot better now, even though it's basically the same. You guys talking about it kind of swayed me too.

Vayne

it was definitely supposed to represent their last beacon of hope. thats why it was the only thing colored vs a sea of grey

Hena

The ending is fine, I actually only have one gripe with Attack on Titan, and it's Historia marrying a farmer. That doesn't make sense, like literally-

Barry

Thats the message of the show, grow don't destroy! Makes sense there but I wish it was Reiner despite that.

Barry

I don't get why anyone takes away that Eren was right, even Eren thinks he failed. Reiner said it way back, the worst person to have the founding titan was Eren. You can't put a revenge obsessed, suicidal maniac like that in ultimate power and expect him to be capable of producing a good outcome. He tried but he didn't have that in him. Ymir used him to get free and she didn't really care about collateral damage, that is the simple truth of what happened. If Ymir had wanted a good outcome for the world she would have chosen someone like Armin who had empathy and intelligence to burn.

Neo Don

I got a lot to say about the end but overall this show is top 5 anime’s for me

Jesse

The end without a end!

Sonicluis

While I hate and dislike the ending of AOT. I will never discredit it or take away from the series as a whole. It’s like GOT. A amazing series and top 10 in its field but the ending sour me a little on it.

Yaboyrocklee

To answer why people say Eren was right. 1. He failed correct but he was right about the cycle of war and it would approach Paradise island wouldn’t have lasted too long without Eren wiping out 80% of the earths population. The part Eren was right about is that humans would keep fighting and it’s basically a fact thar Paradise island was too under equipped to survive a war without the founding titan ability and didn’t want Historia to take the burden . Eren was basically right about the outcome and FAILED utterly at a humane solution other than genocide. He is the one of the worst people in the world to have it if you live outside paradise island. Now you don’t have to agree but that’s the rationale because you said you don’t get the thinking. Getting it and agreeing are separate topics

Christina Scarfeo

I really don't get how people hate the edning...I don't see how it could have ended any other way

Stevetheiguana

Could argue that a better solution would be to not stop at a half measure and do a 100% rumbling. Morally speaking, is it REALLY that much better to stop at 80%? He previously spoke about not wanting to leave Eldia's fate up to chance, yet by leaving 20% of the Earth completely enraged by the rumbling, that's exactly what he did. The alliance trying to stop him could have been irrelevant, as he could have wiped every Eldian's memory that the rumbling was happening, leaving the guilt and burden on him alone. Eren could then survive the ordeal, return to Eldia, but struggle to go on, hating himself for what he did, exactly like Reiner. You could still have a post credits show conflict, but it would be internal conflict or civil war within Eldia, which would still showcase the whole eternal cycle of hate and violence. When you show the rest of the world nuking Eldia, it kind of proves Floch's point right, which is why the anime had to adjust the architecture to look much more futuristic than it was in the manga. At that point in the story, pragmatically, Eren and Floch were 100% correct. Doesn't matter of course since they turned Eren into a slave who gave up and was pathetic. At least they removed Armin's line of "thank you for becoming a mass murderer for us Eren". The sentiment was still there though, you're heading out to kill your best friend because he's committing mass genocide, you meet him in Paths I assume, and you're more preoccupied with Mikasa's feelings? You don't punch Eren because he's slaughtering 80% of the world, no you punch him because of Mikasa's feelings? C'mon now Armin. Introducing the last minute plot twist of Eren killing his mom w/ Dina was great for shock value, but it raises too many questions and issues if Eren had the power to command any titan in history. Mikasa somehow carried Eren's rotting head across a whole continent and ocean w/out ODM gear how exactly? Didn't everything get destroyed by the rumbling, including the ships? I could go on, but the ending was certainly flawed and rushed imo.

godUsoland

If it wasn't for the baby's Hair color, I would have sworn that Historia's kid was Eren's. :D Even now, I'm still open to Isayama-sensei saying my conspiracy theory is true lol

jimmy john

Ready for Beren: The Next Generation!

Barry

The cycle continued, so he killed 80% for no reason. I can understand arguing that was worth it if the plan had actually worked. As it is we have 'Nazi' Paradis apparently, you see the face of Sasha's family, this is not a great ending for Eldians either. I should state, I like the ending because it forces people to confront how much evil they are comfortable with if it suits them. Where is the line drawn? How bad would the atrocity have to be for those people to decide Eren was wrong? Edit: I should add some cultural context. Ireland was allowed to experience a famine that could have been easily stopped. The population was essentially halved and it removed a lot of the fighting potential of the country. That's why I won't argue that the ending isn't a realistic one from the scenario of the show but having an outside view, it should not be applauded.

V

Great discussion in the end. People are easy to forget unfortunately

Barry

Most people falsely equate it not being a very good outcome with it being a bad ending. I think the fact it provoked those feelings makes it great.

Daniel Gonzalez

Well I guess I better hurry up and binge from where I left off before the spoilers start coming in super heavy difficult to avoid when you frequent YouTube and Patreon speaking of which don't know if you heard but Danmachi just recently dropped a teaser for S5 didnt expect it so soon but still don't know the release date

Mirza

Good description. Still wish it was aspirational with a happy ending for Eren though lol but what can ya do

Yaboyrocklee

yes i did hear, and yeah lol...honestly i been waiting years to talk about AOT and avoid being spoiled lol so you have a lot of people who have been holding it in

Xsardes

How EXTREAMLY small changes can change absolute trainwreck of a finalle into...a good one? But the full circle, the exact same deam tree after nuclear apocalypse, and #Titans, here we go again. Aslo, there is popular theory since the manga ending that Eren reincarnated as a bird, anyone who want to do a re-watch/re-read of manga look for the deam bird in the background, this little fucker is at every key event Aslo aslo "80/20 rule" is as close to "Theory of everything" as we got so far. This shit pops up LITTERALY everywhere: 80% of company is bloody useless and does 20% of the job, 20% of company are fucking goats doing 80% of the job 80% of marketing simply won't catch getting you only 20% of clients. 20% is some banger that catches 80% of customers. 20% of shit in class is 80% of what you needed for the test, rest - 80% was basicly pointless and is worth only 20% on the test 80% of the time you grind in a game you get fuck all, selling trash makes you 20% of gold, but 20% of the time you get the epic loot making you 80% And bilion other things, hell it even happens in places where it have no right of happening. In most games 80% of setting you can go anywhere between ultra low, and ultra high, and you will barely see a difference, but mess even a little with the core 20% and game looks either like shit or masterpiece (fun fact, the FPS are too often in reverse corelation, so the shit that don't change anything in the end when pumped up gives the biggest FPS drops)

God Enel

Lol dark nigga hours, whatt??? 😂 literally the opposite

God Enel

I mean in a way this is his happy ending he got everything he wanted. Got rid of all titans and all his friends lived long peaceful lives and got to die of old age. Eren took the dub really

God Enel

Saying this was pointless is like saying ww1 was pointless cause a second one happened. Eren got what he wanted. His friends lived long happy lives and all the titans are gone

Yaboyrocklee

“ Eren got what he wanted. His friends lived long happy lives and all the titans are gone”. And this was as good as he could cause the cycle of war can’t be stopped

Barry

@God Enel Not sure how that argument makes any sense here. My whole reasoning is that people will accept absolute evil if it suits them personally. I said that Eren being limited in empathy for others as well as overall intelligence is why this outcome was caused. I do not dispute that the ending made sense based on how Ymir manipulated events. My gripe is with people who hand wave mass slaughter just because it didn't happen to their favourite characters. If Zeke had won and genocided Paradis, would people be saying the same thing?

Barry

@Lee I get that, I'm talking about viewers, not the characters. Eren said it himself, this is all he was capable of doing because hes not 'special', hes just a dude who got thrust into the role.

HAKII

The Bird Eren thing I remember just being a meme because of the ending scene that some people took to serious XD

Casper Ghost

That bird is actually an Artic Jaegar too further adding to that theory.

Syeshia Flag

I see a lot of people say this (this is not an attack btw just curious) but what ending were you personally expecting, what would’ve made it better? I personally thought (anime wise) the ending fitted the show. It was bittersweet, they’ve reached their goal and peace insured but as per usual (which was the anime’s lesson essentially) humans will always have conflict. So I don’t get what would’ve been better
