I think it’s just how the show is very upfront about what it is and the fact that, unlike so many other harem MCs, Rentaro is actually fully onboard with the situation and deeply loves all the girls equally. He goes so out of his way to make all of them happy and you want to root for him. The comedy also helps a lot.
