The Martian shapeshifter is not the person that was overlaid as he was telling the backstory. I’m sure you figured out that was the astronaut whose place he took . So the human astronaut got taken over by the sequids and took over mars. Meanwhile the shape changing Martian guy was pretending to be him on earth. Sounded like maybe you mixed that up a bit in your heads. I was hoping we’d skip most of these storylines to make a more condensed and focused experience. Now I have to wait a whole season for the fight I want to see. Kirkman said he could see this going 8 seasons - love the show but I do not want that. He learned nothing from the Walking Dead it seems. Also: Blue Eye Samurai exists and is awesome . Also also: the live action Avatar The Last Air Bender teaser trailer dropped. Looks good.

Pretty sure the Martian guy is fine, as in he's not a bad person with any bad intentions. He's just a survivor because Mars got fucked up by those starfish things and he escaped and now he's just trying to live on Earth taking the place of the Astronaut that didn't make it (and I'm sure that astronaut guy is just dead now with that thing completely taking his body ). I feel bad for the guy. I hope he fits in. I feel bad for Eve. Doing something nice only for it to lead to people getting killed. It does show that even with good intentions you can't just be doing whatever like that. In her case that was just bad luck right there. If she had known that area wasn't stable she coulda fixed that too. I hope this doesn't bite her too hard.

The Martian Shapesmith guy, while definitely not a bad guy, isn’t exactly a survivor of the sequids. In fact, him escaping and swapping places with the human astronaut is what caused the sequids to reactivate their hive-mind and destroy Martian society (since they were able to parasitize the human astronaut). Also the sink-hole Eve inadvertently caused didn’t kill anyone. Eve’s dad stated that it was a miracle that it didn’t result in any fatalities. So the mother and daughter in the newspaper were probably just injured not killed by the sinkhole disaster.

Mark and Amber had only been dating for a couple weeks. Why on earth would he tell a girl he just started dating his secret identity , he doesn't have to tell her shit. Also when Mark and Amber were visiting the college that got attacked she starts talking down to Mark even to go as far to call him a coward for running away from the cyborgs when she knew the entire time he was fighting and getting his ass beat by them. If you can't tell how fucked up that is, then it speaks volumes to your character. Amber knew the entire time so she could have easily just broken up with him if she couldn't take being stood up all the time but instead feigns ignorance (which is another form of lying btw) and just makes Mark feel like a shit person who can't manage time when she knows he's out trying to protect. So no I wouldn't be pissed if my partner of a few weeks was lying to me just so they could keep me, their family and other people safe. If I couldn't deal with that lifestyle I would break up with them plain and simple, not gaslight them into thinking they're a trash partner when I literally know all they're trying to do is help people.

I think they were trying to make Amber more intelligent and not oblivious to Mark's actions like other superhero girlfriends who remain oblivious for years, but they just ended up making her come off like an asshole. The way they wrote it, she literally pretended not to know that Mark was Invincible and chastised him as a coward for running when she knew he went to go suit up. But I honestly think that was one of the few bad writing decisions in S1 and they never intended for her to come off the way she did. They wanted a girlfriend that would call the hero on his shit for missing plans, which is realistic, but they went too far with how she treated him and I don't think it was in her character to react the way she did when she found out.

Btw the flashes between Shapesmith and Mars isn't the "real story." Shapesmith is a Martian who hitched a ride back with Invincible when he went to Mars and accidentally started a parasite zombie apocalpyse. The flashes to Mars are to show us that those parasites now have a spaceship and that Shapesmith (who was copying the appearance of the astronaut who was infected on Mars) will probably be one of the only ones able to fight back against them. This is because Martians are immune to these parasites (they can only attach to things that can't shapeshift).

Then you have the human Livingston that was taken over by those StarFish things (Suicide Squad) who are now taking over Mars from the Martians while everything else is happening.
