The trial itself yes, and the fees for public defenders are paid for by taxes, but Hanbada as a private law firm is not. However, big law firms will often take on public interest cases pro bono (i.e. for free), which is what happened in this episode.

she didnt afford them. it was pro bono. hence why they called it a "special public case" or whatever. it was basically a charity case. law firms do this all the time to give back but also make them look good on paper. thats why homeboy brought it up when he was yellong myeong seok. you cost us clients worth billions for a client that is FREE???!!!

Regarding your question as to why Hanbada took this case, I think this might be a pro bono case. Private law firms take cases like that and in my country, tax laws even provide incentives to encourage practitioners.

Just watch it on your own. It's been like that for almost a year and others have tried to get it fixed. Myself included with zero success. Not even an acknowledgement. Roshi either just flat out ignores it or doesn't have the reaction anymore. Nobody knows because he never responds when its mentioned.

Facts, I finished it a while ago. It's just disappointing to see that even months later to see that it was still an issue. And it was the episode itself was missing not just a number.
