Nice!! I hope we will see more kdrama in this channel in the future it’s so good!

Dustin Merck

Timing couldn't have been more perfect. I just opened the app to see if this was uploaded.

Please react to Fate Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bree

Honestly I don't like this episode as much, thought it was a bit ableist. The fact the sons name sounds like the North Korea dictator, how they made him seem big and terrifying in some scenes and incapable in others, just rubs me the wrong way.

yaboyroshi

Y’know? I was gonna joke about his name but that it woulda been in bad taste so I shut up lol

Kyle Llewellyn

The name thing is not a big deal and I doubt intentional. It’s not like North and South have unique names, I doubt it’s the only time it has happened in a show either

Bree

The name can be seen as reaching but then again, they also could have chosen any other name.

Merfhew

I'm hoping they wait until the full season gets closer (probably in early 2024), but this isn't relevant to their Attorney Woo reaction.

Bria A.

It is reaching to some extent, obviously there are a few regional differences when it comes to names but his is…not an uncommon Korean name at all. It was gonna be something like that regardless considering siblings tend to share at least one syllable to show that they’re part of the same generation. It’s just tradition. Also, completely different combination of syllables — not even the same name. Overplaying his size for comedy was annoying because Korea’s general opinion on weight and appearance is extremely biased, but his behavior I wouldn’t totally classify as ableist because the show makes realistic efforts to showcase characters with different levels and types of disabilities. (Other people’s reactions to him *are* ableist, though.)

Danger Tomato

Please dont react to fate overhyped fake whispers of don't care

Anthony Chase

They won’t react to it most likely as they reacted to the main series and won’t watch the spin offs

Kingmakaii

Shit trash bro them trying to spin oh all autistic people the same they not he has the brain of a child literally she can think like an adult that’s not the same 😭

Bria A.

As someone who is (physically) disabled, let me tell you, this week alone has been full of grown ass strangers saying and doing the most out of pocket shit based on assumptions just because I’m disabled lmao. It’s always exhausting and this episode and particular and another one down the line hit different because of it every time I watch.

Lilanea

Regardless of some issues people had with it, I think this was a strong impactful episode. It shows how someone who has a disability or just on a basic level is different is seen as less or not as a person. People often make snap judgements about someone without seeing beyond what they think they know. As wrong as it is, people often see someone who is disabled as not as intelligent or as inferior. They totally miss that they are people just like everyone else who have struggles, talents, and feelings. I think this episode illustrated this very well.

Destiny Simon

well that was the point? they did it on purpose to showcase how because ppl thought this way abt him that he committed that crime against his brother, which was not true and that was the lesson here

raeven b.

what are you even trying to say? This doesn't make much sense, man.

Hughjass

They could have chosen a different name but, I'm not surprised that they would intentionally make fun of him. They have more of a reason to do so than anybody else.

Destiny Simon

this ep def made me cry, the ending, the dad at the beginning flashbacks to her as a child, all of it broke my heart 10 times over 😭 like ik she cant help it but he loves her so much, at least there's that.

blabber90

FYI- North Koreas dictator’s name is actually a common name given in South Korea. So relax y’all. Plus the guy’s name is not even the same as the dictator’s anyways . It sounds similar but it’s not the same.

Lashaune Brown

This is a very problematic thing to say because literally North and South Koreans can have the same names. The whole episode was so show how discriminatory people can be on people with physical and mentally disabilities. This is also coming from the webtoon as well.

blabber90

As a Korean American who also has a Korean name, I can say we do share same names (with few differences at times) but that’s because we are from the same ancestry after all.

Ashe

Fuk dis where jjk😭

Dooly

As a Korean American, all I can say is your ignorance towards our culture is shining through.

Bree

I'm aware the names are similar and not the same, what I'm actually saying is: In my opinion they made it sound so similar deliberately to mock the autistic character and the dictator alike.

Bree

For me this is simply an allegory to mock both at the same time.

Bree

This turned into an ethnicity discussion when that wasn't even my point.

min

haha little Young Woo = Yunjin's daughter lol

Quincy Jones

Thing is, do you have any Korean ancestry? If not, speaking on their culture is making you come off as ignorant and uninformed. You're acting like one of those annoying far left white saviors speaking for them when you yourself were not raised with their culture or knowledge.

britt

this ep was to show how ableist people can be so i dont see the problem here. it's basically how they portrayed buddy in green mile

Bree

I'm speaking as an autistic person nitpicking on an autistic show, not Korean culture. Other autistics also think the show is ableist on many parts. I just don't like this episode and how it was handled.

2023-07-06 23:14:39 But that’s exactly the point of this episode to portray the realistic discomfort that actually happens today in society.
2023-07-06 21:11:35 It’s all about how you take it in, so your opinion is valid just like everyone else’s here but ima just say that was exactly the point of this episode. If it rubbed you in the wrong way, I say it did its job in portraying and showing and possibly educating the audience on the realistic discomfort and situations that actually goes on in society today.

Korean culture is engrained in the series. That’s the point. Judging it based on Western ideologies is just wrong.

2023-07-06 23:43:27 I not judging based on anything besides "they made this character look evil throughout the entire episode, could the deliberately choice of his name be part of it?" What I'm saying here is very simple.

Kim is an extremely common surname. You’re grasping at straws, man.

blabber90

And many others have been saying here…yes they made his character look in your terms ‘evil’, (although I didn’t see him that way) cause that was the point of this episode and No, it was not a deliberate choice for his name to sound like the North Korean’s dictators name.

Bree

I see what you're saying, but my opinion won't change. If I can associate the two, other people can, you know? Other people, Asian or Western, can make that connection and I don't think it favors the character.

Bree

It's ok if you say it was the point, I get it. I just don't like it. It's ok if you don't agree too.

2023-07-06 23:55:14 If you’re from any other countries other than the Koreas its possible you’ll think of the North Korean dictator since his so infamous people will tend to make the connection but this is a Korean drama embedded with Korean culture and intended primarily for the Korean audience so many Koreans watching this wouldn’t think of the North Korean dictators name or make the connection like that.

I don't think is easy to affirm that for a whole audience, but I appreciate your words.

2023-07-07 00:14:30 @Bree Listen as I Said your opinion is valid, so I have no problem with that. As a Korean American myself knowing how the culture works I’m just trying to share the insight and clear out any misinformations you or others may have like regarding the deliberate choice of the character’s name. Trust me though the name…Koreans won’t make the connection . If you really want me to spell it out for you I can…But yea , if you don’t like how it is that’s that and if others think others wise that’s that too. Simple.

2023-07-07 00:14:30 @blabber90 Yes I'm aware, I said that I understand. Again, thank you for your words. (didn't mean that in an ironic tone tho, I see it could be seen as that)

Asellian

Sasha

The seaweed rope. Yeah don't let Sheera off easily on this one.

WTT_321

I felt so angry watching this episode of Attorney Woo because people (who are ignorant of how autism works) just only see the outside of them and not inside of them. It hits home because I have autism myself. While it's not as severe as the defendant in this episode, it's still a form of autism I live with every day... At least I'm glad Myung-seok realized what he said when he first saw Young-woo is reflected because he did the same thing as those other jerks said to people with autism... That's at least the part that made me happy... We'll see how this goes as I'm watching the show too...
