The studio behind this is Production IG, theyre one of the oldschool GOATS of anime animation. They did stuff like the anime scene in Kill Bill and the Ghost in the Shell. One of their spin of studios is Wit, who did Attack on Titan

Damn hyped for this. Been reading the manga since near the start, and it's awesome to see it get an adaptation with such great animation and direction, voice acting, etc. Love the world building, characters and pacing of the story. As for the people comparing it to TLoU, Promised Neverland, Made in Abyss, etc... yeah, I can definitely see the connections there, though I'd also throw in some Shinsekai Yori (From the New World) for the setting and some of the aesthetics... maybe even a couple of concepts from the Dune novels, though that's a bit more of a stretch.

The production quality of this anime is really good so far. The character animation, backgrounds, and staging were all fantastic. For those who are in interested reading along with the original manga, this first episode adapted the first 2 chapters of the manga and about half of chapter 3 (17/32 pages) and the majority of chapter 4 (25/32 pages) respectively as well. Since it appears that this season will be one cour (13 episodes I believe) and depending how much the pacing slows down after the first couple of episodes (to about 2-2½ chapters adapted per episode), I think this season will adapt up to at minimum the end of volume 4 and/or up to the half-way point of volume 6 of the manga. Also this anime/manga is perfect for tons of speculation and theorizing and has so many subtle details and foreshadowing in it. Especially on second rereads if one has kept up with the manga (it currently has 53 chapters published). And if anyone is interested in starting the manga after this season is finished, I personally would still recommend starting from the beginning as in addition to the standard cutting of extra dialogue and scenes for the anime for run-time and cinematic pacing, the chapter titles and cover pages also play a role in experiencing the foreshadowing of the plot that the anime can’t quite replicate (due to the inherent difference in mediums).

It is, but only for regions outside of the USA (and its listed under its Japanese romanji spelling). For U.S. audiences, it will only be available on Hulu. For some reason the first episode had a delay, but it should hopefully be available on Hulu for U.S. audiences by tomorrow.

I don't think the old lady was using them as bait cause usually when someone puts someone to sleep for bait they usually move them to a place where they would be directly in harms way but she knew the monster would come directly to her. She probably doesn't want them to get in the way.
