It was really heartwarming seeing them care for the Old Master. It really showed their attachment to him. Except for Arnheid. It was business as usual for her since we was ordered there. Really hope Thorfinn and Lief get their reunion next episode. I think Arnheid and her husband about to be a 3 ep mini arc 🥲 I don't mind it I just really wanna see Lief and Thorfinn in the month of April. I'm not a manga reader so I can hold out hope.

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the last five pages of chapter 73 and all of chapters 74 and 79. So this isn’t the first time Sverkel has collapsed while working in the fields (and Snake having to come to his aid), if one can recall from back in episode 6 of this season, when Ketil was trying to convince his father to come live in the same housing with the rest of the family, he mentioned how Sverkel had already previously collapsed in the fields once before. Anyways, Gardar isn't meant to resemble Einar, it's more the anime can't quite capture the detailed facial features to the same degree that the manga can (like the anime is kinda inconsistent in how defined Einar's distinctive facial mole is, while in the manga you can immediately identify Einar from it). Also Gardar didn’t free another fellow slave, he just spared the life of the mother and baby (who was likely the wife to one of the sons of Gardar’s former owner).

Its funny how anime watchers confuse Gardar and Einar because of their similar hair but nobody reading the manga had that experience because Gardar's hair was pure white while Einar's was actually shaded. I thought it was to portray him as a blonde, guess the anime had different ideas lol.

Gardar's hair color is meant to be red in the manga too (you can look up the cover to the English edition of Volume 6 of the manga to see Gardar and Einar in color), it's a more vibrant red compared to Einar's red-tinged brown hair.

There was something really moving about Throfinn listening to Snake reading the Bible. It's also a really nice parallel to Canute. Canute came into the story as a Christian and we're seeing his descent away from faith. While Throfinn being potentially on the opposite path, a vessel whose sole purpose was violence but now on the road to discovering faith. This show is great.

It's important to point out that this isn't especially about faith, it's about hearing an alternate, pacifist worldview that differs from the warrior culture he grew up in. Christianity is being used as this vechicle because they are in a time period when the religion was introduced to these countries. Canute is still a believer and, to my knowledge (never finished the manga), Thorfinn never becomes a believer. Alot of author's themes are more aligned with eastern philosophies than Christianity. These eastern philosphical principles are being framed through a Christian lens.

Books would have been INCREDIBLY valuable back then since the printing press did not yet exist and all copies of original books had to be transcribed by hand. So Snake could probably make a nice chunk of change off that book, though I feel like he's just deflecting the truth with that answer.

The thing is, this stuff is normal. You aren't always going to understand everything that's happening, or may even forget crucial details when watching something. What's mind blogging is that some of the people that call them dumb or clowns are literally in the same shoes when they're watching something too. Lupa may be out of it sometimes but he's incredibly preceptive, and Sheera foretelling future events is something all of us do.

him being Einar never crossed my mind once when I first watched it, but they do look very similar with the hair and goatee. But they have different eye colors, their hair is slightly different colors, the voices are different, and Einar has a mole on his nose.
