there's actually a lot more of the manga left that can be animated but the writer has gone through some serious depression for well over a decade by now so chapter releases are slow and have been for many years. He still does update it every now and then but for now the OVAs are a very great stopping point for the anime which is probably why they stopped animating it there until the story is complete.

I wouldn’t say it completes the story But, it’s a continuation and is canon. Black Lagoon is technically not done just don’t know when and if we will get another season so I think it’s definitely worth a watch. I found it more entertaining then some of the previous parts of Black Lagoon🤷🏽‍♀️.

Despite how much Rock was getting called out on his hero complex he was right about Yukio's half assed resolve. She pretended she could actually setup some sort of Resistance in Roanapur of all places, Balalaika's own turf with others like her ie Chang, with Ginji. She was just involved in what Ginji wanted to do for his own loyalty to the clan while she just wanted to be with him. As soon as he was gone she broke immediately. There was no saving the two.

Also again you do gotta remember, Rock didn't save her because he wants to be some hero, he did it for the reason he said, it's just his hobby. Last ep Rock compared revy to someone just waiting to die in the gutter doing fuck shit like the bullet slice, and for balalaika all she ever seems to want is war. In rock's eyes those are their hobbies. For Rock his "justice" is just a way to enact his hobby, which is just playing a game of saving random people, if they die then that's that, on to the next one. He just doesn't like doing the dirty work and would rather other people do it for him, like revy or balalaika, but that's also why he's said to be in the twilight. He mainly does it for entertainment it would seem deep down, even if his outward appearance seems squeamish

The manga isn’t over unfortunately. And the the publishing has become irregular in the past decade due to the mangaka struggling with depression/creative block IIRC.

Part of that is due to the manga not having enough material for another season/OVA series. Currently there is only one completed arc after the Roberta arc, and the current arc “L'homme sombre” is still ongoing.

You gotta understand the manga is on-going there was a decent few years hiroe was on hiatus trying to go independent from his publishing magazine for black lagoon and hes got depression so he works slow, but we are currently only around 2 arcs past the one you're gonna see in the ova robertas blood trail

And it's considered a semi-canon sequel to Black Lagoon by the author (of Jormungand, not BL). So in the story of Jormungand, the events of Black Lagoon occurred in the past (though this isn't very relevant in the anime/manga) but Black Lagoon doesn't necessarily need to progress into Jormungand, since they have different authors with different visions for their story.

The OVA does leave the series off on a satisfying conclusion if you don't want to read the manga or wait for a sequel that will probably never happen. The manga shifted with RBT from arcs that can be 1-3 episodes to 2:30 hour movies (or half hour OVAs) and due to multiple hiatus' the manga is just finishing up its second arc right now, so if they continue the anime, they have enough for 2 films or OVAs the same length or shorter than RBT, and Fun- I mean Crunchyroll Dubs may not be able to do it justice with their quality over the last few years, but if there's a mangaka that would specifically bring back the dub cast and crew for the japanese anime, it would be Rei, given how much he loved the original dub

There are ways to write believable entertaining fight scenes or gunfights without it having dumb shit like Revy missing a shot point blank or other stupid things like mofos constantly missing shots. Or just standing around and not shooting. Just chalk it up to bad writing and leave it at that.

You definitely need to watch the OVA, Roberta’s Blood Trail. Although it technically happens earlier in the manga it does continue the story, and it definitely makes Rock a more interesting character in my opinion. Unfortunately the manga isn’t complete yet but if you’re interested there are 2 other volumes to read, maybe they’ll get an anime adaptation soon since they were actually released a couple years ago.

Not actually related, but there are at least a 1 or 2 subtle references to B.L from the director in Jormungand.
