It's a prequel, but there are references to things in Magi. I would recommend finishing that for the best experience, but there aren't too many egregious spoiler imo.

I mean there's an end-game reason for that tho, so I'd suggest reading the mango since the anime will never get more seasons (S2 ends shortly before the gud shit starts to snowball into the story)
