Vampire twins arc always hits different especially the sound of midnight ost that gretel sings, shit goes hard. Also hopefully lupa lays off rock, hes supposed to be the moral compass of the cast so you dont start to forget just how terrible the people in the show are and how bad the things they do are just because its a show.

The more we get into this show the more we understand why the normal ending credits song is so bleak, in contrast to the banger opening. Under all the swearing and badass action, this is a dark cruel world.. filled with characters who are broken beyond repair with no chance at a normal life. Nothing left to lose but to die in blazing glory. Sad really. We finally see Rock's purpose in this world as a protagonist and how he may develop as a character the longer he remains in this dark depressing shithole.

The orphan story is true btw, Socialist Romania had a pretty terrible pro-natality policy under Nicolae Ceaușescu during the cold war that taxed people for being childless and outlawed abortion. It birthed a desolate generation of penniless orphans that were ripe with disease and mental illness raised by state orphanages where they were subjected to institutionalised neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and drug use to control behaviour. The effects of that period were profound and the developmental and psychological damage done to hundreds of thousands of children immeasurable. And thats not getting into the many other ridiculous stupid terrible things Nicolae also was responsible for.

This was kind of hard to watch cause these kids didn't choose to grow up in the circumstances that they did. They're the perfect example of a product of their environment and it unfortunate that they were in a fucked up environment.

IIRC there’s also an implication (I guess it was more explicit in the manga) that the twins genitals are so badly mutilated and deformed from abuse and torture that identifying the sex of one or the other is nearly impossible. Which is why Rock’s disgust and reaction when Gretel exposed herself was so intense (not that being propositioned by an abused child isn’t already extremely upsetting). And like Benny said their story was never going to have an happy ending, even if they weren’t living on the run in the underworld of the black market, the best case scenario they could hope for would be forced institutionalization.

First time watching Black Lagoon and Rock is my favorite character the hate he gets is crazy y'all been praying on this man downfall since day 1 just expect a normal guy to be okay in these situations. Than they're like well leave good luck with that since his old boss gave him an ultimatum.

Plus they're acting like Rock hasn't been clutch for the team like when he came up with the idea that helped them shoot down the chopper chasing them and when he talked to the lady in the ripoff church and convinced her to get the weapons they needed. For someone who isn't used to the lifestyle Rock was able to come through a couple of times.

To be fair, Roshi and Sheera understood Rock's and the Twins' side of things completely. It's good to have a diverse mix of opinions in a reaction. This is what I used to to love about anime: Completely random life situations and what would/could happen given the crazy circumstance. A desk worker SHOULDN'T be in this situation, and he didn't just magically turn into Rambo to fit the situation either. It's comical at first, but Black Lagoon is pretty Goon-y past the midway point. Next arc is cool. Final arc is Godly, IMO. Almost feels like a different show. And Roberta's OVA arc is ... well... I still don't think I'm old enough to be watching some of THAT content lol. So glad to see you guys take this Journey 😀

I honestly can understand why lupa is frustrated with Rock. Considering he knew since like day one from Revy telling him, that this is a fucked up business. Like honesty, if you have such strong morals then why the fuck would you join and stay in the first place? The concept of Rock as a character is irritating. Even though he is supposed to be a morality pet, it still begs the question of why this nigga is staying with the lagoon company in the first place. When he knows that the people around him are all pieces of shit.

It was mainly aimed at pretty much anyone in the comments who are mad at lupa for not liking Rock. Also I agree that Rocks reaction was normal. At the same time, tho. Its not like he hasn't been in that situation before. Like with Garcia, even though this situation is a bit more messed up. it still comes back to the recurring issue with Rock as a character where he just cant make up his damn mind.

Lupa. You have more in common with Rock and yet you hate him a little too much. There's disliking a character and then there's straight up hating their role in the show. Lupa, you show to have the EXACT SAME moral compass as Rock (and you get real annoying about it too, we've all experienced you being emotionally stupid in many reactions ) and spout your morality against fucked up things in other reactions of anime where messed up crap is the norm, but soon as Rock opens his mouth you act like this. You can like or dislike a character, opinion does not have to be the same as everyone else or yours. And Lupa can question Rock's actions all he wants because it's his opinions. If everyone had the same POV there would be no reason for reactions or even new shows because they'd all be the same. Let this man react how he wants.

It makes perfect sense why people don't like Rock. Man will be in a shootout with Dutch yelling at him to get in the car and he'll stand there saying philosophical quotes. Rock chooses every episode to be in the mercenary life. He could've bounced and joined the church of drugs and guns if he wanted to be in the underworld but not kill people. Dutch will say a perfectly normal sentence like "get the tarp" and Rock will be like "what is the meaning of life in this cruel world?". Rock has never heard of time and place and he does it every episode.
