If wearing a bikini doesn't count as fanservice then she is most definitely not the only female without fan service. Most of the females in bleach have no fanservice if you don't count "revealing attire" as fan service. Doubly so if you're going to backpedal and goalpost move that "filler doesn't count" then the fanservice drops immensely. Going by that definition the only real fan service in the show is from Inoue, Rangiku, Kukaku, Yoruichi and Nel. Practically everyone else comes down to "revealing attire" or exposed skin/cleavage or it happens in filler which "doesn't count."

The Unohana reveal has been hinted at since VERY early on in the series. 1. Everyone, even Captains as powerful as Shunsui and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her (though this often played off for comedic relief). 2. Her fake name, Retsu, means "violent" or fierce", hinting at her true nature. 3. In the SS arc, she is the first Captain to notice something is off about Aizen's death (even while under complete hypnosis). When she arrives in the Underground Meeting assembly area after Aizen waxes Hitsugaya, he acknowledges that he thought she would be showing up soon. 4. If you recall Kenpachi's backstory flashback from the SS arc, he tells Yachiru that he named her after the one person he admires and respects. The First Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru is that person. 5. Even from the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, which is second only to Aizen and Yamamoto who both have a total of 560/600. Her special ability was also listed as kenjutsu, NOT healing.

Out of their options for a replacement shunsui was def the best pick. Strength alone isn’t what’s needed to be a head captain. & shunsui def isn’t anything to play with. I don’t remember how exactly he was appointed either (if it was Yama or the people in the court) but it makes sense with him being one of the oldest captains, a student of Yama, and also having all the skills needed for head captain especially thinking decision making being able to get folks together and lead lol. I’ve seen people say Kenpachi and I love him too but let’s bffr that’s a horrible idea it would be chaos lol

Kyoraku was picked as new Head Captain due to his seniority, which means he’s one of the people with the best grasp on what it means to lead others, as well as him being close to Yamamoto which is even more reason to be picked. Realistically, the only other options would’ve been Unohana or Ukitake. Unohana would not have been a good fit, as taking her away from her position as 4th Company Captain would heavily impact the effectiveness of the Healing Corps, plus I doubt Central 46 would want a former criminal to lead the 13 Court Guard Squads, and Ukitake has his health issues which would limit him from a completely different angle, which means the best pick remained Kyoraku.

I love how they did the Unohana x Zaraki fight. I love how it wasn't flashy and bright like the big reiatsu fight that Ichigo and Zaraki had when they first met. It was just two literal demons trading blows and blood. And I absolutely gotta give props to the animation team for the linework and color grading, making a dark scene still very visible and understood. As well as Unohana's VA Aya Hisakawa, for bringing a rough edge to her usually motherly and loving voice. Absolutely terrifying but beautiful.

Sheera was right. Aizen is down there with them locked up in Muken. Muken is just an infinite space so they are not gonna run into him. Also Kenpachi is a title, there can only be 1 for each generation. Unohana relinquished that title but usually the current Kenpachi kills the previous one to claim the title of “the strongest”. Thats why Shunsui said if they cross swords, its not gonna be just a sword lesson, they are fighting to kill each other for supremacy. Whoever comes out on top will be stronger for it

Has Kubo ever explained why Orihime's ability to unwrite past events isn't utilized more often? Yamamoto didn't want his arm back, but otherwise, we've literally seen her revive people who were obliterated into nothingness. Aside from the fact that her power completely removes all stakes story wise, it's never made sense to me that her power isn't at least explained away if she's not gonna use it. All they gotta do is call up Urahara and say, "Hey, can we borrow the plot device... I mean... is Orihime available?"

I think they touched on it in the Original Bleach but I’m not sure if I’m remembering it correctly. I think they chose Shunsui because along with Ukitake, he was one of Yamamoto’s apprentices and he basically viewed them like sons so of course if anybody could replace Yamamoto, it would be one of them. Ukitake wouldn’t be able to do it on account of his chronic illness. Plus we don’t really know Shunsui’s real power yet.

I'm actually just now kinda realizing that one running joke about Unohana. Yeah, looking at her true colors, her face is terrifying. She does look like a goddamn monster and in the past there was maybe one or two jokes involving Unohana making a "face" at people who piss her off. I certainly remember one time she did it at Ichigo when she was alone with him at some point being escorted somewhere. I think he was lacking in common sense when he was making a remark about her age, he turned around to look at her and he freaked the fuck out and shut his mouth. I remember they never revealed her expression to his comment and then they cut back to her having that usual mother smile. I'm assuming her "Kenpachi" face is the face she makes that has people so terrified to slip up in conversation with her.

I remember one time Unohana and Ichigo were alone together and Ichigo slipped up making some comment about Unohana ( I'm assuming her age ) and he turned to her and freaked the hell out. sheera your anime only but if you remember the reason shunsui was picked as the captain commander is 1. he is Yammamotto first and oldest student with ukitake. 2. the oldest Captain other than unohona and Yammamotto 3. his bankai which we havent seen yet is insane like on par with yammamoto bankai ukitake told him not to use it against stark because it will fuck up everyone around during the arrancar arc 4. he is a leader that makes decisions that benefit the majority like when he ain't kill chad and ichigo and them in the SS arc after they were told to by Yama or when he calmed all the captains down after Yama death or the decisions to train kenpachi even though central 46 was against. he also makes one big decision later on which is going to blow yall minds

We can all agree Shunsui was the best choice to take Yamamoto's place. He's been around and was personally trained under him along with Ukitake, so he's basically Yamamoto's son. Ukitake, even though he's seasoned too, isn't qualified because of his obvious illness, but also he's just too big of a sweat heart. Shunsui, despite how lazy and pervy he comes off, is a man who gets shit done when it's serious. Remember, he doesn't believe in the aesthetic of honor when it comes to fighting. He'll play tricks, cause drama, do whatever to get what needs to be done, done and I respect him for it. I remember in the Espada/Arranca/Fake Kadakura arc. he back stabbed one of the Arrancar ( the wolf guy with the guns ) and his own comrades tried to drag him for being dishonorable for butting into a fight that wasn't his and Shunsui said he didn't give a fuck. That guy was the enemy and he'll do ANYTHING to win against the enemy. Right now he's doing it. Tricking Kenpachi, forcing him to level the fuck up since he was lacking in that invasion and he's gonna sacrifice Unohana's life to do it. Damn.

In theory it's an unbreakable barrier that can reject all phenomenon and heal any injury but she can't fully utilize it. We seen what happens when she tries to directly block powerful attacks. I think the moment you're referring to is when Ichigo was being escorted out of Hueco Mundo and into the world of the living to save Karakura town from extermination by Aizen. She wanted to walk in front of Ichigo in the space between the worlds so that she could create a better path since Ichigo is terrible at controlling Reiatsu. Also another moment would be when the group of Arrancars that fought Rukia ran into Unohana and immediately retreated saying "A sensible captain has appeared before us".

There are many reasons on why they chose Shunsui as the new head captain. He is one of Genryusai 2 disciples, the other being Ukitake. Those three specifically has be noted that their bankai cannot be used around others due to the facts that they can harm whatever realm they are in and the people around which is why we have never seen them use theirs. Meaning that he is extremely powerful. We also can see he is very wise and they have been highlighting specifically his relationship with Captain Yamamoto. Hence, Shunsui is the best choice for the new Head Captain

The series made jokes throughout that the older captains and Kenpachi were scared of Unohana whenever she would chastise them, they played it off like it’s because she’s the mother figure of the squads but this ends up being the real reason

He's currently one of the oldest captains, and see as one of the strongest. He fights dirty as was shown when he fought Coyote Starkk, and when everyone else loss to he came back and finished it. She's a weak target, sure, but as Nefarious Nox mentioned, we've never been informed of a time limit on her powers. I'm honestly surprised that Kubo never added something like, "Those killed by a Quincy cannot be revived by Orihime's powers, as Quincy powers eliminate the soul rather than purifying it" to the series lore. Instead, we're expected to ignore the fact that her power could literally undo most of the damage from this war... but she doesn't get involved.

In hindsight this explains so much about why when Unohana would give someone a directive or instruction in the initial series and they mouthed off and they caught that "fuck around and find out glare". Now that I think about it, Unohana was the only was the only captain who NEVER got chastised by Captain Yamamoto. Shinsui isn't random at all you probably just dont remember from the older stuff that it was gonna be either him or Ukitake since they both were basically raised by Yama and 2 of the stronger captains I mean Shinsui destroyed stark without much effort lol.

Yeah Shunsui wasn’t random at all. From way back in Society, they tell you him and Ukitake have been riding with Yamamoto from the beginning. In the Arrancar arc, he was the one handling the strongest Espada in Stark. And they gave you the Yamamoto flashback with Shunsui in it during the Yamamoto/Yhwach fight to remind you that Shunsui has been the guy. Next captain was always gonna be him or Ukitake.

Yeah if you go back and watch Bleach there are moments where Unohana straight terrifies people when she gets slightly stern with them and this is why they either know her history or are just terrified by her aura lol. Her Kenpachi persona is so scary! Roshi said it straight up demon! And to Sheera’s point about why one of them has to die is I think when these two fight the murder and bloodlust takes over and it’s basically impossible to get them to stop. And it’s also probably the most effective way to draw out Zaraki’s power is to go all out! I’m ready for it!

Agree 100%. Unohana and Zaraki have to go all out by nature of being Kenpachis, by nature of the way they fight. I don’t want to lose either of them either. I’m glad I stopped at this arc in the manga cuz all these reveals are super dope to experience with the anime for the first time.

You didn’t understand nothing lmao… kenpachi zaraki needs to be taught Zenjutsu (Shikai and Bankai), Zaraki has put restrictions on himself which can only be broken when he experiences Death as stated by Uno at the end of episode, Unohana killed him 3 times in this Episode and Healed him directly after that: sadly too many people missed that lmao..

I love the way Unohana looks here, I remember when I started reading the manga after the anime ended, I didn't even recognize Unohana initially (in the manga) because she looked Demonic. The anime is doing the manga justice by making her look so scary. She is scary.
