I could be super dumb, but i think after the season 1 fight with shigaraki and eraser, he just figured, the next time he grabs me im cutting off whatever he touches first. His rational plan was to minimize destruction. Same thing goes for the quirk bullet. i dont think it was a spur of the moment idea. aizawa had this in the chamber in case shit got real, decay or quirk deleter bullet option one is lop off whatever gets hit.

We were expecting Deku vs Overhaul type animation because the manga looked super cool (Chapter 284-285 if you’re curious) and it’s literally the first time Deku used 100% smash 7 times in succession soo obviously we didn’t expect dragon ball out of sight smashes and 2 being panel shots. And the smashes looked kindaaa weak. Only good thing was the Texas smash and MAYBE st luis smash

And i get that. But you have to remember Horikoshi has some of the most chaotic fight scenes in the manga that makes it hard to animate. Like there’s like just a panel with different points of impact and the smashes deku uses. Obviously that would be so hard for them to animate. But let’s try not to allow animation be the deciding factor on an episode

@Onyekachi The backgrounds and character models had zero shading, the line art/style was inconsistent, and most action shots were still panning/shaking images with no actual animation. Basically, it copied the manga panels 1 for 1, but lost all the detail of them, and didn't use the advantage of the animation medium to enhance it, leaving a worse end product. Lack of FX and basic animation principles on the characters made the fight and punches feel like they had no weight/impact. No speed lines, shading, flat/uninteresting camera angles, no exaggerated visible wind pressure (barring one moment), little exaggeration and bounce from the characters being tossed around. Majority of the gore was censored which changed the tone and severity of the situation. Like, Shiggy's jaw was ripped open, teeth shattered, bleeding everywhere and he's fighting for his life, but in this ep he's clean af and looks like he has a goofy smile after multiple 100% hits. Shoto literally bisected Shiggy with his ice to save Aizawa and here he gets lightly pushed. Endeavor/Bakugo stabbed was so clean it looks like when an object clips in a videogame lol, manga panel had their costumes being ripped and blood coming out the wounds. This was extremely inconsistent since some shots (Deku St. Louis/Wyoming + Endeavor Prominence) looked great, but then it would lose all that quality in the next shot. Feels like it was handed off to multiple different teams or outsourced tbh. Remember the last season of Haikyuu lol? I guess manga fans were expecting at the *very least* Endeavor V Nomu or All Might v AFO/Nomu. This is like the first real boss fight of the series aside from AFO and you can't compare the animation at all lmao. Like we've seen what they've done with the Overhaul fight and movie scenes, we know it's possible. We got Mirko and the Nomu animated well *and* uncensored, so why not the main antagonist of all things...?

Also for Eraserhead his quirk ain’t even that integral to his heroism it’s a dope ass ability to support him though and make his job easier. He still got that capture scarf & his hand to hand training. He’s like Batman, you take away his gadgets & he can still beat your ass He ain’t like Mt. Lady, Kirishima, Bakugo, etc. where their fighting style is 100% built around they quirk. They’re like Green Lantern you take away their ring & they ain’t a significant disadvantage

All Ima say Ethan is they can still fix it in the blu ray, thats why the blu ray exists, it has happened before where they de-censor things in the blu ray, they cant do that with the main series due to the airing time, also the budget for the movie is higher than the main series, even Deku vs Overhaul came at the price of sacrificing Mirio and majority of the rest of the season including Deku vs Gentle, it all depends on the scope of the fights ngl, Deku vs Shigaraki was a good fight but Mirko's fight was wayyy better, and the fights coming up are better too, just my personal thoughts, I just thought this ep was cool

I mean the emotional investment is just what it's borrowing from the source material and adapting, which was already good for these chapters. What the anime has to do is the directing, music, animation and voice acting. Plus I mean, literally almost every season of MHA was released yearly, so it's not really an excuse for the quality to dip so much multiple seasons in a row on a flagship franchise with a massive studio like Bones.

Ok well a couple things.... 1. If the airing time is an issue for gore, why was Mirko not censored this season? Shiggy's family last season, Endeavor vs Nomu, etc? There are some scenes with gore and the rest are censored inconsistently, regardless of having the same broadcast time. 2. Yes, I know the movie budgets are higher, that's just the pipe dream for MHA animation in the main series. That's why I also compared it to great animation/fights within the yearly released anime (Overhaul v Deku, Endeavor v Nomu, All Might v AFO/Nomu, Deku v Bakugo/Todoroki, etc). This ep doesn't even come close to those. 3. Idk what you mean by sacrificing animating Mirio for the Overhaul fight? The anime had nothing to adapt from when he was fighting quirkless, it wasn't even shown in the manga. Yeah, it would've been nice if the anime had done it, but not a necessity. Whereas here we have them failing to animate a penultimate fight directly shown in the manga, to the level they've shown they can produce multiple times.

tbh it didn't feel all THAT hype to me in the manga? like it was good, but the whole time you're kind of just waiting for the other shoe to drop because Deku was so obviously not going to win, and it was overshadowed in impact by Deku's reaction to Bakugou getting impaled, and then a certain Reveal stole the show +we're definitely getting to the villain hunt arc, which probably ate a lot of the budget on account of it raining the entire time + changing locations all over the city

I feel the same way about Eri, man. I've been thinking about what would happen if Eri rewound Deku and/or Shigaraki. Can she rewind Deku back to being quirkless? Can she rewind All Might to his peak? Can she rewind Shigaraki to a point where he didn't have All for One? Her powers are so busted. I feel like she's gonna be important but I also fear the prospect of Shigaraki stealing her powers. This is certainly a take lol 1. He went to protect Deku while using him as bait to attack Shigaraki. 2. He realized his attacks couldn't hurt Shigaraki but saw that Endeavor could. 3. The anime cut out the scene where he destroyed a second bullet that Shigaraki was going to use on Endeavor. 4. He then used Shoto to cool Endeavor so he could go all out on Shigaraki. He would've lost here but, AFO saved him by an inch. 5. Bakugo saves Deku from being stabbed. So far, he's done a reasonable amount with what he can.

I haven't read the manga in like a year or 2 1. Is so weird to why in the hell would he try to protect Deku knowing all the quirks he has and knowing that Shig is after him 2. Endeavor is the only one dealing damage but Shig is literally tanking them while also healing through them I understand that he's done stuff I just have a problem with him literally standing there in the heat of the moment like Deku's arms are destroyed rn so he's practically dealing no damage but he's trying something

@Noah it wasn't a bad episode (especially compared to season 5 or other shows), but it just didn't live up to the hype animation/art wise to the manga at all which disappointed a lot of fans. Came off looking bland and slow compared to it. Don't just take my opinion of it, take a look at Chapter 282-285 and put them side by side to form your own. I guess best thing I could say is knowing we're in one of the best manga arcs with one of the best fight scenes that arc, and readers were expecting it to be at least an Endeavor/All Might V Nomu level of animation. This ep shoulda had animation that would be trending online like earlier seasons or Demon Slayer or CSM for example, but instead it was just luke warm.... Kinda like going to this famous burger place that's been hyped up, you've seen the menu and past reviews of food, but when you get there it's just a McDonald's burger. Like yeah I'd still eat it, but still disappointing. However, OST and voice acting went crazy 10/10 will give props to them. Here's to hoping next couple eps live up to the hype and receive a bit more love animation wise.

I'm saying that of those things, Aizawa's leg/eye and Bakugou's sacrifice are way more impactful than Deku vs Shigaraki, which mostly just sets up that Deku would loose right now (and takes Deku more or less out of the fight for when the rest of the LoV show up and Something Happens)

tbh, at the beginning of the episode like Roshi mentioned, I saw him pulling out his knife last episode but I was like 'what can you do with a knife?' Damn.. to think he was ready to immediately cut his leg off. Mad respect to Aizawa. I actually listened to this episode at Max volume on my computer and video, it was SO INTENSE! 4:40 Lupa, if you think about it, this dude is literally like the Gun Devil.. Shigaraki can do that Decay move that turns everything to dust, and it reaches insane distances so he could kill millions with it like they said the Gun Devil had done.

I mean in hindsight coming from rereading the manga, Mirkos fight in terms of scale and most of everything at the hospital raid was way bigger in terms of fighting, Dekus was just a beat down, the fights afterwards though are much larger in scale imo compared to this fight...also I know ppl were expecting Yutaka Nakamura but, the man gets to work on what he wishes given that he's a veteran key animator at Bones...so he most likely just didn't want to.
