Arc

The slave in the beginning wasn't on the list but the smoke showed for him when he blew away his fingers.

This episode made me realize that there is a major problem with this show, which is that since it's based off a DnD campaign, it shares the same flaw of the story being at the whim of dice rolls. As a result, a lot of completely nonsensical and anticlimactic stuff happens throughout. This is why the show seems to be half-baked and badly written a lot of the time. That said, I am enjoying it, but they really should have just accepted that changes needed to be made in order to smooth out the rough spots from the actual campaign.

Why? For you? This is how it went down and every little moment that is in the Campaign is referenced, even if it doesn't show it. EACH episode of critical role's second campaign is 4 hours or more. This is a show about the DnD campaign not just some story written up. If you play DnD you know that is called being rail-roaded through the campaign. We wouldn't have the joke about doors (since they ALWAYS roll low on interactions with doors and chairs), we would be missing the inside jokes they keep throwing in. In the end, the players of the game are voicing their characters in the show so they have the emotion of the LONG story they all wrote together using the dice as the decider. Maybe you should just accept the show the way it is since that is the way it happened in the podcasts.

I wrote this a long time ago and have since not only joined a real DnD campaign (going on 6 months now), I have also binge watched all of Campaign 2, half of Campaign 1, and am currently caught up on Campaign 3. That being said, I no longer agree with what I said here. The show is great. But now I think there is perhaps something lost in translation. Critical Role Scanlan is hilarious, because of how Sam interacts with everybody and the improvised nature of the game. The show is definitely good and enjoyable. I just now think the game is a little better.
