Overall a great story and clears up some stuff regarding Bakemonogatari! I feel bad for Shinobu though

Every myth is has some differences depending on where you look, who you talk to, etc. but yes, in this particular version, they do. In most other places, vampires usually just drink blood, old school Dracula films-type vampires were just that, Twilight introduced “vegetarian” vampires (drinking blood from animals instead of humans), and I’m sure there are other examples.

Araragi did do a trash thing by doing that to her -- But I think it was also him not wanting to hurt someone who was kind enough to want to turn him back into a human by killing herself. Like imagine someone is willing to repay the favor so harshly -- for someone with a hero complex like Araragi the idea is something that would make him feel guilty. It's totally selfish though, but I think that's what it is about.

Araragi is selfish, his Hero Complex wouldnt allow him to just kill her off. She suffers because shes been stipped of everything and he suffers from the major guilt knowing that hes done that to her.

Think about that this way: if there was no Shinobu then Araragi couldn't do shit he did in bakemonogatari cuz he'd die in encounters with cat or monkey. Decision sucks, but they warned you about it in the beginning (french words meant "story where everybody will suffer in the end"). But let's see what will happen next, maybe you'll forgive Koyomi for his selfishness (I forgave him at least). Also love how he's "recited" he's words from end of bake (if you die today, I'll die too and shit). As always, thx for reaction, waited for this shit to drop like forever, now I'll be waiting for the time of true fakes, haha

One of the most bizarre fights I've seen so far. The battle of two immortals are amazing and they remind me of that one battle in Chainsawman. It's basically Chainsawman spoilers without context. This is also the start of Shinobu and Araragi's beautiful and complicated relationship throughout the series. Also that kiss scene between Hanekawa and Araragi is Nightmare Fuel. Now I can't wait for your Nisemonogatari reactions next week.

To this day I think Kizu 3 is the worst of the movies. I can understand them cutting all of Araragi's internal monologue from the novels because otherwise it would not fit in 3 movies but the fight in the movie feels so vastly different from the novels that it just took me out of it.

pretty sure we wont be getting Nise for awhile, they said that since the Mono series is so long they are gonna put a couple of shows in between so that more requests get answered as opposed to focusing on one series. They just did Kizu right after Bake because it was three movies, not another full season.

I'm working through the monogatari series myself right now...and Kizumonogatari really gave me a different perspective of Hanekawa. I assumed in Bake she was just a background character with a crush and Senjougahara swooped in because she never gave any hint she was interested in Araragi, but after watching the movies I don't know how much more obvious Hanekawa could have made her actions without forcing him to make a decision. No normal woman gives a dude her panties, takes a cross to the midsection, and is willing to let a dude rub her titties so he can fight a vampire. I just started Nisemonogatari to I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops from here

If you have resentment for Araragi at the end of this movie, the deal on paper is trash for Kiss-Shot, however in practice it does actually favor her: What Oshino says to Hanekawa in the stadium is, "The risk of this, is that Araragi and Heart-Under Blade could return to being vampires." Obviously Araragi would never kill and eat to regain his strength, but theoretically Shinobu could. Right now she can't because she is too weak to actually kill someone, However at the end of the movie Araragi says to her, "If you ever want to, you can kill me." This means that at any moment Shinobu can kill Araragi and return to full-strength. Vice-versa, If she really wanted to, she could also stop eating, and die of starvation.

but she explicitly stated that she wanted to die for him. She doesnt want to die from starvation. she wants to die saving him and turning him back to human. Thats her one wish. Araragi's selfish desires leads to a situation that she will never die because araragi will never kill her.

Maybe, but if Shinobu ever did die then Araragi said he would die too. It appears to be a mutual agreement to share their lives in a relationship that is arguably stronger than marriage or blood. Though it's unclear to me what is felt between the two in that relationship.

So one thing you guys noticed is how fucked up everything around Araragi is in Bake. If you think about it, it's not really the case in Kizu, at least not to the same extent. Now, there is one big difference between Kizu and Bake which only is highlighted at the end of this move. Movies were not narrated by Araragi until the very end. Basically we see the world in Bake through his eyes and thats why it's all fucked up. If you pay close close attention in later series you may notice some change to the world but I wont say more until it happen since its not much but it may be considered a minor spoiler anyway.

Yeah. "Kizu" usually gets translated as "scar" or "wound," and "monogatari" is "story."

Exactly, now you KNOW why Shinobu is just sitting there, looking pissed or depressed the entire series. It also helps show why the next time she shows up in Nise its a really big deal. It gives a lot more context to their conversation, that unfortunately back in the day, anime only people didnt have.

It's always a bit interesting how Araragi's final decision will often become the catalyst for construing someone's overall perspective of the story. People will focus on Araragi's selfish behavior, but neglect Kiss Shot's equally as selfish behavior: Araragi wanted to die to preserve her life; however, rather than indulge that wish, Kiss Shot decided to keep Araragi alive because she wanted him to kill her - a decision that shows no consideration for his consequential suffering. Even further, after Kiss Shot confirms Araragi's temperament, she persists in her efforts to compel him to commit an act that would likely cause turmoil (I mean: if Araragi wanted to die after causing someone's death indirectly, I can't imagine he'd feel great about killing someone he did not desire to kill). Simply put: the events of this story stem from the behavior of two individuals who are moving along a self-destructive path, each believing their inherently selfish actions can offer the other happiness, but failing to realize their own self-gratification will not actually satisfy the person they wish to make happy. And that's why the narrative "punishment" here is fitting: both characters are now forced to accept life, in consideration of how the other feels.

The best and the worst of Monogatari is that it is an extremely psichologycal and methaphorical show. Almost always there is hidden and deeper meaning puposefully put behind the top layer (what you actually see) story. In Kizumonogatari, it is about mostly about opening up the self to others. If you realize that the whole series (almost the whole) is playing in the last year of highschool, it is pretty straigtforward that in many cases (on one layer) the author writes about the phychological and etical questions coming up during becoming an adult person.

Oshino basically felt bad he messed up and let hanekawa get captured forcing araragi to give up his humanity so he returned the heart. But he was implying also that in a way she saved his life because Oshina was gonna be his final fight and clap his ass to next Tuesday. so really hanekawa saved his ass getting caught lmao.
