Couple years late, but I've never seen them get clapped up so much by a series lmao. After rewatching though, I get it, there were a lot more moving pieces to this story than I remembered. The story definitely works best after watching all the Stay Night series.

Since we are done with fate zero. I will explain a bit about fate stay night. Fate stay night is a adult visual novel. It's a game with branching paths. It will always start the same. Your choices at the start will lead you to three different storyline. Which are 1) Fate/Stay Night 2) Unlimited Blade Works 3) Heaven's Feel Basically which story path you take will focus on one particular female protagonist in the story. That's all. I wanted to say, you might be confused in the future when you start watching heaven's feel. Wondering why are we doing the same main protagonist storyline again.

I think roshi was pretty close with that description of the ending during the discussion but I think there was more to it. I think it was implied that when Saber destroyed the physical grail she was destroyed also and when all servants but 1 is killed the remaining servant and master get their wish granted. Meaning that the burning blood destroying the city wasn't kiritsugu's wish, he had effectively dropped out of the grail war. The wish for all that carnage and death was Kirei's.

Additional info, since you skipping fate stay night. The reason why people would suggest you start with fate stay night is because the biggest revelation is learning kirei was a villain. And rin and sakura are blood related. Since you started with fate zero, there isn't any reason to watch that. Plus it's an older anime, so the action sequence is kinda boring.

The problem is that there isn't a next storyline. So there isn't an official story that tells what happen in the fifth holy grail war. So there isn't a main path. You choose what path you want to be the main one. Personally, i like heaven feel's conclusion the best.

What happened to Kirei simply said for now...Grail happened to him. So for next season, remember that this story is from a game. That game had 3 different paths you could take depending on your choices. Fate Stay Night is called the main good ending and UBW is like middle ending with Heaven's Feel being like "truth" ending. If you want to be crazy watch all 3 stories in order with the old Fate Stay Night.

None of them are the "main" path. It's a bit hard to explain if you haven't played it, but even though the story restarts in every playthrough, they're kind of a thematic "beginning" "middle" and "end" to the overall story. You're forced to play them in order. The first path, Fate, just exists to set everything up for the other two. The second path, Unlimited Blade Works, is mostly about exploring the main character and his mentality. The third, Heaven's Feel, is about giving closure to all of the overarching plot points. It'll make a lot more sense once you've seen them. It's three separate retellings of the same story, but it's also one story being told in a weird way. (although the Fate route is pretty skippable in the grand scheme of things, which is why they haven't bothered making a newer adaption of it)

This anime (or the novel it was based on) was written by a guy called Gen "The Butcher" Urobuchi. The guy is pretty infamous for his really, really fucking dark stories. Stay Night/Unlimited Blade Works/Heaven's Feel were written first and by a different author, so expect there to be a difference in tone. They're still really fucking good, though. Just different.

Aight, Fate/Zero was split into two seasons. You just finished watching the second season. Next is a new series that's part of the continuity, but it'll be a first season again. Just wanted to clarify that.

Guys remember that fate zero is the prequel (hence "zero"). "Season 2" technically is split into 2 timelines or paths Rin (Unlimited Blade Works [UBW]) and Sakura (Heaven's Feel Movies 1-3). However, the traditional watch order is: 1. Fate Zero 2. Unlimited Blade Works (UBW) 3. Heaven's Feel Movie 1- 3

Do you what is a prequel? Fate zero is the common point of all the fates. No matter how things change, fate zero is the absolute point that preceds all of them. Thus fate UBW is not fate zero season 2 as they are claiming it to be. Fate UBW is a continuation of fate zero and so is fate stay night 2006, and so is lord ell melloi 2, and so on… call it a straight continuation is simply not a true statement you can call all the 2473 different fates a straight continuation too if thats the case…

So ya sakura aint dead. Shes a main character in the main series. Also this is a corrupted/cursed grail not the real one. It was pissed kiritsugu tried to destroy it so it manifested and tried to corrupt the servants in the area like Gil but Gil is such a pain in the ass the grail said nah and spat him back out which in the process reincarnated him so yes this is a real body he's now in not a spiritual one. Its actually supposed to be funny AF that Gil couldn't be corrupted by the grail and it didn't wanna deal with his ass lmao. Also UBW isn't season 2 its Season 1 and Zero is Season 0 as the name implies. All 3 Fate timelines are canon and happen simultaneously and sometimes you get weird crossovers so not knowing the backstory on stuff you'll probably be mad confused watching UBW. Goodluck tho just enjoy the animation and try not to think about shit too much because this franchise really requires lots of extra reading to fully understand. Youll honestly NEVER understand whats going on without reading extra shit or having it explained to you the shows really don't focus on that unfortunately like the VNs did.

Guys like many others have tried to explain. Fate/Zero is a self contained story. From there the story is split into 3 different timelines/routes. There's the Fate Route which is Fate/stay night 2006 anime. Then there's the Unlimited Blade Works Route also known as the Shirou Route which is Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works 2014. Finally there's the Heaven's Feel Route also known as the Sakura Route which was released in 3 parts as movies from 2017 - 2020. Like other's have said; Sakura is not dead! All of these show can be considered sequels to Fate/Zero. Fate/Zero is simply the starting point.

Maybe pedantic, but Fate Stay Night is the starting point, and Fate/Zero is the prequel. FZ ended the way that it did because it HAD to end the way that it did, because the ending was already decided long before FZ was created.

So, as a long time fan of the series, i started with the original fate/stay night ages ago. tbh, it really hasn't aged well. The ONLY reason to watch Fate/stay Night instead of Unlimited Blade Works first is that it's the 1st route of the visual novel. the idea is to do each route THEN the last one, which is heaven's feel. Now, since you guys started with zero, you technically have been spoiled on plot points you would otherwise NOT know if you started with the original. ie, just do UBW then Heaven's Feel since they look GREAT for 1, and 2, UBW's age does NOT show. Edit: I would also like to note that FSN is decent, but not good. Certain parts just don't make sense after watching Zero and it's got a lotta cringe. do be sure to watch a specific fight though. i'll mention which one later cuz it's actually pretty sweet. Edit 2 XD: Just wanted to mention i'm excited to see your reactions to the 2nd UBW op, it's my favorite in the fate franchise and hope you guys watch stuff like apocrypha!
