This fight is so sad and amazing to me one of my favorites... like theoretically mereum pre meeting komugi couldn’t have handled neteros speed and he could just done one point of damage forever until mereum died... but the saddest part is this whole fight was just to see if netero was strong enough he had the checkmate the whole time he just wanted to believe in his full strength and to top it off the saddest line arguably in the show comes from netero a man who spent his whole life praying and worshipping saying if there’s a hell I’ll see you there because that’s the danger if humans even the most religious man in the show decided from the start to become a demon to win... in a way the chimera ants are less monstrous than humans perfect love that is episode thanks for blessing us Roshi 🙏🏽❤️

Meruem absolutely could've handled Netero's speed. From the very start, Netero knew he couldn't beat Meruem in an honest fight. Meruem is literally the strongest being that's ever walked the Earth in the HxH universe.

The way Madhouse did this show is unmatched with any other adaptation in my opinion. No other show has made me hold my breath while soaking everything in like HxH. And the commentary on how even though Netero was one of the top Hunters in the world and he still had to resort to a bomb, the contrast between human and ant, togashi is the goat

Definitely agree, best fight of all time for me. And no other story or medium, no book or film or TV show has had a similar affect on me. You can't get the same effect anywhere else. Anime is essential to me, as someone who cares deeply about story and the emotions it can provoke, and the new ways of thinking it opens up to you. I love how the whole time Netero was like "this fucking newborn INSECT brat thinks he knows everything" and finally finished up with the proof that his reaction to Meruem wasn't lack of respect but REALITY - Meruem understood nothing about humanity's potential. He built a kindom for himself in a poor dictatorship, and having killed a bunch of peasants and fools thought that was all humanity could do. SIKE, humanity is more nefarious than you could possible imagine Meruem. There's a bomb in my chest that humans invented to use ON EACH OTHER. You don't know what psychos you're fucking with here. Fucked up, morally grey, philosophical, operatic, poetic, mind blowing, emotional, thought-provoking, awesome. I love everything about this fight.

Thank you for doing 5 episodes in a raw, that's amazing ! Now you see why most people who've seen it praise Hunter X Hunter that much, the writing and artistic direction is simply S-Tier. A few things about the episode , Netero was kind of "Selfish" because even though he had the bomb all along he still tried to fight Meruem and still convinced him to subdue him without killing him. Also , for what you said about Netero being the strongest , it's not true ( and that's not a spoiler) , remember back in NGL , when he was talking with Knov and Morel, he said that he was no longer the strongest Hunter because of this age (so just try to picture Prime Netero, which you can have a peak at if you do watch the Hunter x Hunter Movie). Finally , when Netero said "You understand nothing about humananity's potential for evolution" , the subtitles were kind of unaccurate. What he really said was more like " you understand nothing about Humanity's potential for Evil" refering to how mankind created something as horrible as nuclear weapons. Amazing Reaction and you were on top as usual! On a side note , i don't know if you know it , but 130 and 131 must be watched together. The same for 134 and 135. Wether you watch them by doing 3 episodes or 5 is up to you and i'll be okay either way ( and i think most people will too) Keep up the good work !

Netro wasn't actually the strongest hunter at this point in time. He did say it had been decades since he was the strongest nen user. In his prime he was the on the kings power leve, if not stronger.

technically netero in his prime was the strongest hunter which was 50 years ago now during his fight with mureum he was in the top 5 range.

Just to let you know Netero was only the strongest nen user in his prime. There are at least 5 other nen users stronger then him, with Ging being one of them. I think they said it back in Greed Island.

We don't know how strong Netero actually was lol. Even in the manga, there was no clear cut indication of his prime power level, so you can't say he was stronger than Meruem. You can make educated guesses about what double of his current power would be (Netero claimed to be less than half of what he was). I'd say Meruem's still got the edge.

Netero kinda admitted that Meruem had a point though lol. He's just experienced to understand that the current Meruem is too young to actually be a good ruler. Nevertheless, he's still far more capable than the current upper echelon that Netero was hired by.

I really like that you write "kind of" since many people think it's just an error and should say malice but when you look a the original scans the way Togashi wrote the kanjis they're supposed the create a double meaning of the word (as in it says both evolution and malice) linking evolution and malice, which makes sense when you consider that to be the apex predator you have to be the best at killing all the other rival species as well as your prey. On a related note ants(irl) are the only other species besides humans who will take slaves and have farms.

I love this community first off just wanted to say that and secondly this is why once I watched this anime it jumped to my #1 spot. The storytelling, the characters, the animation are all SSS Tier. To see 2 monsters studying, fighting, and enjoying themselves in a match so beautifully was amazing! I can't wait for you to see what happens next. Also I wonder how a young Netero would have faired again the King....

ALSO ROSHI, remember in the Hunter test when Netero was playing with Killua and Gon? Gave them a handicap by not using one of his arms or legs. He lost the same arm and leg against the king.

I agree with the 1st part, but you should check the second part. I think Netero said "there are only 5 Nen users like Ging" but didn't say if they're the strongest 5. Ging certainly has insane control over his Nen, though.

This episode was significant in more ways than one. The true meaning behind this episode was that even if super human abilities came to exist or alien species far beyond our imagination came to invade... the power of human ingenuity and science can overcome all with time....

Humanity as a species, is far more terrifying than ants. If given enough time and technology, it's likely we will conquer the galaxy and beyond eventually. What Netero meant by he's not alone is that he also has the backing of his entire species with him. Nuclear bombs are the culmination of humanity's ability and it's far beyond what a mere ant can comprehend.

Netero's last words actual have a double meaning if you read it in Japanese: The line is often translated as: "Do not underestimate humanity's infinite potential for evolution!". But it is also translated as: "Do not underestimate humanity's infinite potential for malice!". Humans are cruel, and capable of such monstrous acts that the Ants couldn't hope to match.

As much as I love Meruem's character growth, he really still had to go. Even though he's seeking compromise with the humans, the best compromise he had to offer was basically The Promised Neverland.
