Ang learned from monks at his temple how to bend. And since air and water are somewhat similar it makes sense. Plus Katara was self-taught.

I think there is a mild difference from learning how to water bend, and MASTERING it, like sure you can learn how to swing a sword and develop some basics but to truly master it takes years. So yea it may take him some time still.

Regarding your question as to why they took out ALL the airbenders at the start, it was mentioned that the avatar travels in a cycle between elements. So they knew that the next avatar had to be an airbender so they just decided killing them all was the best way to go about ensuring no avatar interference

The same way some people are just talented at certain skills. there are people who are just really talented at bending. Each element is different and people’s aptitudes for the element are as well. In any case, Aang is, as you can see, SOMEWHAT of a naturally talented bender in general.

I’m not annoyed at kitara cuz I know exactly how it feels to work hard at something and someone coming along and being better without near as much time spent. That shit gets to you whether you try to support them or not

It’s more about how air and water are very similar bending styles I don’t know if you’ve seen the rest but bending styles the most opposite of air are hardest for aang

I have seen the rest so I do know about those factors. But I also know that aang is a master airbender at 12 years old, had the ability to manipulate a vastly larger amount of water than katara with more dexterity than her on his first try, keeping in mind that katara has had the ability to waterbend since she was a child. That’s not to say he is more skilled than she is currently, he just possesses more raw talent. He also did not struggle to produce or manipulate fire either He only struggles because he lacked the discipline to control it. I won’t say too much more so we can avoid spoilers. I just hate the way people overlook talent when it comes to bending especially in Aang. Even zuko, who we can see in book one is fairly skilled in firebending, admits that his sister’s talent far exceeds his own although, I think he’s too hard on himself, due to his deeply rooted insecurities, I think it still sheds a light on the factor talent plays.

Yeah it is definitely a factor that he’s the avatar and like just skilled since he’s done it before but it really is about the fact that he had a air bending teacher and also he had katara, katara had to figure out the moves on her own well aang is being taught them.

i agree with this but when you got ppl up your ass chasing you down to hell, you shouldnt be lax like that and just go practice especially since you know that pirates are after you which pirates are usually known to travel on water?
