Underwater Photos by Art of Women + My Dad (Patreon)

Underwater has been a focus of my hawaii trip with Art of Women, I want to master it. I am learning more things each time. A couple days before my Kona trip, I did another underwater shoot with Gabino in Lake Washington. It was cold, still, freshwater. Here in the pacific, the water is salty, wavy, and much deeper. In salt water, your body floats to the top easier, which makes it slightly more challenging to hold a pose since you rotate and float to the surface. direct sun makes the awesome otherworldly light patterns dance accross the body, so sunlight is almost imperative for the kind of underwater I like most.

is a world class photographer, highly skilled in swimming in the ocean (ex Navy Seal, and ex mercenary) while composing shots in motion under water, holding his breath, and I am in motion holding my breath too. There is a lot going on with my body while underwater that makes the images that much more challenging to accomplish. The toughest part for me to get over is the saltwater through my nasal passages, it stings! I blow super sexy snot rockets for probably 20 minutes after an intense underwater session. The salt stings my eyes a bit too. Also, when modeling I am usually holding my tummy muscles tight, which is hard to do while trying to breathe and pose at the same time. I usually end up holding my breath, or breathing our slowly through my nose while posing.

It's very physically demanding, but the images are SO WORTH IT! This is a sport, a no whimps allowed kind of activity!

It's been a while since I have blogged about my dad, well a new milestone in our relationship has been marked. For those of you who do not yet know, 2.5 years ago I had the dream to make a documentary about freelance modeling. Over the course of the shooting of interviews and BTS footage, I decided I wanted to let my parents know about my lofty project. Nudity is a major topic in the flick, and I didn't want them to find out about it through someone else... so I needed to plan some formal confessions.

Why not record these confessions and include them in the documentary itself? Hence the most awkward confrontation of my life occurred: Me locking my dad in my car, with a handycam strapped to the dashboard, spilling my naughty nude-model guts all over my polite, Christian father (who is a college professor of business entrepreneur and tax courses).

That all happened about 2 years ago. Now the film has JUST FINALLY been finished with editing, and my first screening is Oct 9. Of course, I have to invite my dad. Then a close friend warned me "the last thing any father wants to see is his daughter naked!" And I am nude in the film a few times (during behind the scenes at shoots... of course... come on guys I am like ALWAYS NAKED lol..... )

He responded to my invite a bit nervous... asking if this was the "right kind of crowd" for him to be invited to. I started second guessing myself, I don't want to put my dad in too awkward of a situation. What if the film enrages him? So I sent him a private copy of it and told him what to expect, and told him there was no pressure to attend the screening if the film made him uncomfortable.

His response was so positive, I was filled with relief! He congradulated me on the wuality of the editing (Alex Stout of Dark Angel Productions is the main editor) and said that he became "acclimated" to the nude scenes fine (yeah, he's a grown human, but its also his daughter he's dealing with here.)

So I just wanted to share this super positive experience with you all. If you knew my dad personally, you would might understand why I was so timid to tell him about this. He's a man of virtue and a strong believer in the Bible. I grew up very sheltered and went to a strict private school, and I am the oldest of three girls. I was probably supposed to lead as a shining example of a behaved young lady, and I certainly rebelled from that.

Old patterns fade, we all shed our colors and adopt new strengths. I am happy.
