When Jack and Kate are sitting on the log, and jack talks about the ‘clean slate’ and new beginnings, I realized (for the first time, even after seeing the whole show countless times), that Jack may have been motivated to say that from guilt for what he had done in the tent. For that moment, he and Kate shared a common guilt.
