Rainbow Dash slowly opened her eyes in my Equestria dreamscape. It took several seconds for her brain to start making sense of her situation.

She was in bed, but not her own bed, or the bed at Sky Brush’s cottage. In light of events happening at that cottage she wasn't surprised by that. Until Buzzing Flies and Outhouse finished their business there the mare had zero interest being near there.  This wasn't even one of the guest rooms at Sweet Apple Acres. Where was she?

She had a horrendous hangover, her vision was blurry and the bright morning light pouring through the nearby window that made her retreat to under the blankets. But whose blankets were these? After a few minutes she decided to reconnoiter her surroundings once again. Gingerly she peeked out from under the covers.

The room seemed very familiar but RD’s mental capacity was being greatly diminished by the ringing, chirping, squeaking, squawking headache she was enduring; then after a couple of seconds she realized that the ringing wasn't due to her headache. It came from a veritable symphony of birds that were outside and within the room she’d woken up in. Finally prismatic mane mare put all the pieces together; she was in Fluttershy’s bed.

“How did I end up here?” Muttered the pegasi. The last thing she remembered was having another round of cider last night at the Bucking Mare with Fluttershy. Link She’d been enjoying a rare evening out on the town with just her longtime friend from Cloudsdale, but the rest of the evening was a blur. How had she gotten here? Where was her friend? And more importantly could she remember quickly enough where the bathroom was in this place? Dash suddenly felt like she was about to become reacquainted with every drunk she'd had last night!

Fortunately RD was able to locate the bathroom in time, and unlike Sky Brush's cottage, the septic tank Link at Fluttershy's place was behaving itself.  After ten minutes of discharging from various orifices, Dash thought she just might live long enough to see noon. If she could find some form of breakfast to stay down in her stomach. Her mane and tail were a mess but then so was the rest of her so she left it as it was and went to find out where her friend was. Hopefully she'd find coffee waiting there to.

Dash found Fluttershy down in the kitchen humming along merrily to a couple of songbirds that were singing as they sat on the windowsill over the kitchen sink. Normally even Dash would’ve found this was adorable, but this morning the birds singing sounded like claws on a chalkboard. The mare glared at them. Sensing their lives were in peril the birds promptly shut up.

“Oh good morning Rainbow Dash!” Fluttershy chirped at her friend. “I was going to check on you soon if you hadn’t gotten up. How are doing?”

“Coffee.” Said the blue mare in a deadpan croak. “Coffee and toast.”

“No problem!” Said the chiffon yellow pegasi. “Have a seat over at the table and I’ll have it for you in a jiffy! And let me get you some water you’re going to need it!”

Dash flopped down at the dining room table and rested her head on the cool, wooden, tabletop. “Don’t worry about the water. I’ll take a bath after breakfast.” Muttered RD.

“Oh ho! I wasn’t thinking about bathing.” Giggled Fluttershy. “You’re undoubtedly dehydrated so here I want you to drink this water while I get breakfast ready. Oh and here’s some Foalsmane to chew on for your headache.”

Rainbow Dash looked up at the large glass of water that had appeared in front of her along with the tin of Foalsmane leaves. She sighed and stuffed a few of the awful tasting leaves in her mouth and then washed them down quickly with the glass of water. Great she felt like shit and now her mouth tasted the same!

As RD started the process coming back to life, a thought kept floating almost to the surface of her conscious mind but then would submerge again like some large, almost seen marine animal. Finally it emerged above the surface enough for her to remember it.

“Hey Fluttershy. How did I end up crashing in your bed last night?”

Fluttershy sighed and put the butter back in the icebox. “Well, um. After all the cider, beer and whiskey you drank last night you were uh, in no shape to fly in fact you couldn’t even walk, so I brought you home with me.”

Dash stared incredulously. “You didn’t carry me all here on your back did you?” Fluttershy shook her head.

“Oh no, no. I asked the bartender if I could borrow one of their small carts they use for supply runs and he said fine so long as I got it back to them in the next couple days. However you were still unconscious when we got here, so I had to carry you upstairs to get you into bed. Now here’s your breakfast!”

RD stared down at her breakfast as her friend went off to tend to some more of her animals. Dash suddenly had a thought bursting into her mind. Fluttershy had to have carried her out of the bar. Gotten Dash’s limp body into the cart; then hauled it all the way from Ponyville to her remote cottage and then lugged Dash’s still limp body upstairs to get her into bed.  Yet she made no big deal about it.

Dash slowly ate her toast. As she chewed over this thought in her head another one dawned to her. There were a lot of things that Fluttershy did that were really amazing and yet her friend rarely received any fanfare for her efforts, most ponies were ignorant to it or just took it for granted.

This resulted in a further thought popping up in Dash’s head. She was just as guilty of this crime. Sure she and Fluttershy had been friends since they were fillies but rarely had she acknowledged any of her friend’s accomplishments.  As Dash continued to eat chew her toast she dwelled upon this newfound awareness.

To be continued.
