Captain Solid Shot story of that fateful night at Fort Shield had come to a close in my Equestria dreamscape. Many a pony hung around to thank the Captain and all the soldiers present for what they had done in the defense of the realm.

As I turned to try and find out where Carousel and Petina had wandered off to I found myself face-to-face Captain Firewing. The Flight Evaluation Officer for the Wonderbolts had a sly smile on his face.

“So Brick. Learn anything today? Did you find Solid Shot’s story enlightening?”

I nodded my head. “Yes, it was very informative. I was aware that a great battle had occurred and it had won at great cost by the efforts of kingdoms soldiers and Royal Sisters, but, but hearing it from one who was there that night. Well that’s another thing entirely.”

Firewing stared at me for a couple seconds as if judging the sincerity of my words. Then he nodded his head. “Yeah Brick, that’s why veterans like Solid Shot are willing to speak about what happened. No matter how painful it is. It is part of the healing process, but it is also necessary for the population understand what means to give the orders to march. Ponies need to understand what it means to go to war. Fortunately ponies as a general rule are not keen to charge off to battle, but at the same time they need to understand that there are times when it is necessary. However it takes as wise ruler to know when it times to talk and when it is time to march.”

I looked at the Captain. “We’re you there when the dragons descended upon Fort Shield?”

Firewing shook his head. “No I was playing courier when the attack occurred.” The Captain closed his eyes nodded his head. “We lost some good ponies there, and I lost some good comrades in that fight.”

Firewing opened his eyes. “However Brick I think there is one more important lesson you and your marefriends need to experience before Service to the Crown Day is over. Do you have any plans around six this evening?”

I shook my head. “Not really. Our dinner reservations are not until 8:30 that evening. Why?”

The Captain smiled. “Because if you can get your tail out to Promontory Park at sundown. Just like earlier today something that has not happened in a thousand years is going to happen again, and unless I am wrong it will be something you should see. It’ll help understand things better, and by being there you can help some other pony put a part of their past behind them.”

I raised an eyebrow. “And this is event is?” Captain Firewing smiled back.

“Luna is going to renew her vows to the Moon. She hasn’t done that in thousand years. It is strictly symbolic since she’s already resumed her duties and office, but for her and Celestia this is a chance for them to truly put Nightmare Moon behind them in the past and move on. Tonight this will be as much about healing, as it will be about history and protocol. For everything they do for us we should be there for them at a time like this. So Brick will you be there?”

I smiled at the Captain. “I wouldn’t miss it for anything!”

The flame-red stallion grinned at me. “Good, now I need to take care of other things. See you around Brick.”

Then the Captain launched himself into the sky and rocketed off into the early afternoon sky.

To be continued.

Brick?? Interesting nickname.

BaronEngel

I got the nickname from Rainbow Dash. After I was transformed from a unicorn to a pegasi it was discovered I could not fly. Celestia assigned RD to be my flight instructor. At one point in the early stages of my flight training Dash commented that "I flew like a brick" and the nickname stuck.

MishaFox

You are never going to live that nickname down. ;)

OK. I have to say this. That hat makes you look like Clark Kent from the old 50's TV series.
