Another piece of nautical art from my Andur dreamscape. The Bay of Andur see many ships from around Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, but perhaps the most exotic are the Viking Long Ships of Valhaulla. Valhaulla, is Viking merchant, mercenary, and moving company. They'll deliver to place they don't know about. Their long ships are some of brightest and most colorful vessels to drop anchor in the Sultan's harbor. Along with visiting Andur to conduct commerce the Valhaullans also come to the Sultan's city to sell their services as mercenaries. For generations they have served as some the most loyal troops in the Sultan's army. Sometimes sustaining horrific losses to protect the city.

Was this based upon the Oseberg ship? There's a little debate as to how typical that ship was (mostly about its size).

Was that based upon the Oseberg ship? There's some debate about how typical that ship was, due mostly to size (i.e. that it was a funereal ship only). On the other hand, maybe the Valhaulla kick it in style :)

Oseberg ship is big influence, but then again I have been very influenced by Bjorn Landstrom's "The Ship" and it was mentioned in great detail in that book. So my subconscious undoubtedly latched on to it.
