NPC reveal + Devlog #080 + Monstergirl poll #19 is on! (Patreon)

And there she is! Her name is Liv.
This first character reveal in quite a while, and the first of the 3 poll NPCs to be revealed.
She is a deep sea Voleian variant. I really enjoyed designing her ^^
I had a specific role in mind for a goth style NPC I needed, and she fit the bill perfectly. It also made a lot of sense to me to give her an anglerfish type headlight or whatever that's called, as well as some tranparent parts on top of being paler overall. Her fins are also slightly different!
She will be a pretty important NPC that you'll meet randomly while exploring. Finding her will be exciting every time, but I'll keep the reason to myself for now ^^
Oh and also! I'll be using this background with a white outline around the character from now on. I was never really satisfied with the more colorful ones I used before, but I think this is pretty good. Nice and simple ^^

Things didn't go exactly as planned in the last devlog (in a good way): I did begin the month by making another pass on the story up to where the demo will stop, but it ended up being a big one, and the quality has improved by a LOT. If I change anything else at this point, it will be extremely minor. The point of doing this first was so I could figure out which cutscene only chibi I would need and to make a list of these, but at that point I realized I'd need the actual dialogue and cutscene scripts to figure that out.
I figured it would be safer to work on the deep sea Voleian before doing anything else, so I did just that. And, for some reason, I got really motivated to draw the other 2 right after (Mimic and Cowgirl)! I initially planned to just draw one per month, but now they're all ready ^^ (I still do need a few more NPCs, not sure if I'll make another NPC poll just yet though, we'll see.)
I'm still going to keep the same release schedule of one NPC reveal per month of course, but I'm very happy with all 3 of them. I think they'll be well received :B
That being said: Whatever you're expecting the Mimic to look like, that's not it. I went in a kinda weird direction for her. Let's keep that for the next devlog though!

So yeah, that's about it. I'm currently in the process of writing the actual cutscene scripts, and as you might have noticed on the list, I chose to separate "write the story" in smaller tasks. The story itself is finalized (up to where the demo ends), but there are 3 other categories:

- Primary dialogue: Non optional dialogue. This is stuff you will always see when going through the game. Tutorials, important events, character introductions, Vuu waking up late, this kind of thing. This is what I'm working on right now, which also helps me cementing the story even further ^^
- Secondary dialogue: Optional, but sometimes important dialogue. These usually involve at least one important character, but happen outside of dedicated cutscenes. I shouldn't need too much more chibi wise for these, or nothing that will require a lot of work at least, so I'll take care of these later.
- Tertiary dialogue: Everything else! Usually NPC stuff. Same as secondary dialogue chibi wise.

So there you have it! Secondary and tertiary dialogue will be taken care of later. For now, I'll finish working on the primary dialogue so I can make my chibi TODO list. And then, chibi drawing! For real this time, probably.
I did a lot of good work this month, and it feels really nice to not just exclusively draw for a whole month. ^^
