The Abyss 1989 full reaction

Comments

Miles E Coburn

Great reactions, Trin and Rob! Yeah, this is probably my one or two favorite James Cameron film. It’s neck and neck with “True Lies” (1994). "True Lies" might edge it out because there are more comedic spots in it. I only have one area that I question the technology aspects. I’m not sure the human body can withstand the water pressure at 1,700 ft below the surface. At least that’s the depth the company man said they were working at when the Navy first arrived on the Benthic Explorer. With the U.S.S Montana resting on the ledge at about 2,000 feet. So that would mean Bud and Cat would be at least at 1,700 feet depth, and swimming first to one hatch and then on to the moon pool. The one scene that I have the most problem with the Lindsay drowning and resuscitation. 1) Hard for me to believe that AFTER CPR is stopped, she would come around after Bud yells at her to fight and smacks her in the face a couple of times. And 2) strictly on a personal level, my late wife drowned, in the ocean in 1982. Seven years prior. Same reason I have a problem with Kevin Costner’s 2002 film “Dragonfly”. Really, any movie which has a drowning featured prominently. Even with that, “The Abyss” is one of those movies I’ve purchased on every format upon which it has been released. And that includes 4K, which I have ordered and am waiting for delivery.
