A couple of Athasian takes on classic D&D monsters feature in today's episode.

The 'unexpected mouthful of sand' feels like a good bit. Probably worth seeding a few non-malevolent desert hermits or something beforehand, though. It does feel more al-Qadim than Athas.

Maybe the Rpc description should be used as an explanation of how brutal a sorcerer king can be keeping one of two in his palace, feeding them with couriers that have fallen out of flavor, mangled gladiators and such. Horrible stories. And then 2 rocks attacking a player sandship, one mounted by archers and marines, the other by a pilot and a highly trained spellcaster (maybe the king himself) would be a horrible horrible fight.

Oh, I think as a monster to encounter, it's great -- but that stuff doesn't really call for the training rules!

I thought the same thing while reading it -- especially since one can imagine some puffed-up prince who thinks he's a ladies' man getting a faceful of sand in the Arabian Nights or something.
