Omg... you are so full of dad jokes! You remind me of me. Yes, The Wizard of Oz was pretty popular when it came out in 1939, and this movie takes place in 1940, I think, so it still would have been fresh in people's minds. However it was in the 1950s when it first came on TV when it began to gain cult status... we kids of the 1960s and 70s looked upon the annual showing of The Wizard of Oz on TV as an event as important as Christmas or birthdays. Once home video became prevalent in the early 80s it wasn't as big a deal, although The Wizard of Oz was one of the first movies that came out on VHS tape. I still look at it as one of my favorite movies because of nostalgic value, as much as anything else.
