Hi folks! This week's map is the Wrecked Village (40x30), a nice and big stretch of destroyed village, a perfect place to encounter looters or perhaps some of the people who are responsible for destroying this place. And with that thought in mind, I figured it would be nice to make a version that felt a little less cheerful considering the content, so you're alternate version of this map is Dreary! I feel like the different palette helps the map feel like whatever happened here is fairly fresh, rather than the original which gives the impression that the danger is over with.

1. As far as the layout is concerned, I placed the houses to be somewhat evenly spaced and oriented in what I felt was a realistic manner for a kinda ramshackle village. I felt that a simple street would be a good decision as well, seeing as my previous 'destroyed' maps were much more cluttered and complicated in design, so at the very least this one would feel distinctly different than those. I mean, in addition to the stylistic changes I've made since the last time I've made a map somewhat like this.

2. I knew what I was getting into with this map. Detailing the damaged roofs and all the rubble is a fairly big task, so that alone makes a destroyed map significantly more complicated than a regular one. Beyond that, however, this map was thankfully straightforward, since I'm going to be pretty busy for the next few weeks and I'm going to be very very low on free time for the time being. I do have a few fun ideas for the next couple maps, but we'll see if they end up being as large and complicated as I want them to be.

3. Colors! I'm still pretty happy with the new forest palette I've been working on, now that I've made several maps in this way I'm pleased to find that my opinion of it hasn't changed much. Still, I do find myself tweaking colors on a week-by-week basis, so obviously I'm not completely happy with everything about it yet. Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll have time to work on different environments in the coming weeks, since I think I've outstayed my welcome a little bit with the forest maps, and I'm sure a few of you think it's about time I move on as well.
