Hello Adepts, this week's map is the Sailing Ship (24x35), and your alternate version is an extra spooky Foggy Night version! For this one I've rebalanced the Night lighting and effects for a more grim setting, and also added a thick layer of fog which will reduce visibility and make for some interesting stealth options topside. Also, I've got some fun Revisited options in the works for this map, which I'm considering bundling into August post alongside the Winter City Square, so before you suggest it just know I'm working on it!

1. Hey, I don't know anything about boats! I barely even know how they work! Do you know how the ship's wheel steers the thing, cause I don't! Are there rooms, props, and parts that a functional boat always has but for some reason isn't in my map? That's because I've got no clue about any of that! And, if you're lucky, your players don't either! As far as I know, these bad boys have places for all the people to sleep as well as a bunch of storage, and that's mostly it right?

2. In that same vein, I populated this map with just the kind of props you might find in an inn, but with more hammocks and many less rooms. I truly don't know many more things I could have added other than some ropes and sacks, but I hate drawing ropes and sacks are boring and unimportant for combat. Oh, also I realized that my stairs didn't make much sense in my initial sketch and I decided for more central placement. I think this change makes moving through the decks a little more interesting.

Also, you might recognize those giant crates and barrels from the Cluttered Warehouse, which I haven't had a chance to use since! I liked the look of these bigger versions and I thought it made sense that they would be the same prop.

3. What sucks about boats is that they're almost entirely made out of wood, and that's no fun for me. To spice things up a bit I added a little metal trim to the topside walls and used 3 different wood colors in order to help break up areas of 100% wood. Pretty boring, but at least the contrast against the water is nice and eyecatching! Maybe I would have liked my first free boat map better if it also had some water to spice it up, but honestly, I remember being so drained after wrapping it up that I don't think I could have managed any additions.

running a naval campaign, i search for ships more often than i care to admit, this is a really nice piece. it would be super appreciated if we could also have a transparent background version to use as a token on a larger ocean/naval battlemap

This is a gorgeous map — thank you! How hard would it be to change the ballistae to cannons and shift them to the second deck as a more classic “age of sail” gundeck? That would be super useful for a campaign I’m running now — something to think about if you’re considering remixes!
