Hello everyone! I received the following notice from Patreon and I thought I had better share this. I had one patron already reach out to me about a declined payment and then I noticed this in my email inbox. This is evidently some kind of issue with *their* system and they say they are working on it. I am so sorry that this has happened to at least one of you. Please message me privately if this issue is affecting you.

Here is the email that I received:

Hi there,

An  issue with a payment partner is causing a slightly higher-than-normal  number of your patron payments to be declined by their banks. We've  traced the increased declines back to payments system upgrades required  by one of our processing partners. Patrons might see some payments  declined while changes take effect.

If a patron reaches out to you about a decline, you can advise them to follow these steps:

  1. Contact their card issuer to confirm the charge is valid and retry that card
  2. If the retry does not work, try a different payment method. Patrons can edit their payments in their Settings, under Billing History:

It's been a lot more persistent than that and I still cannot get some of my pledges to go through. I've tried multiple cards and repledging individually but so far only half my pledges have gone through successfully. The bank isn't even seeing the declined transactions however so this is entirely on Patreon's end and deflecting to the banks is gaslighting on their part even after they admit they caused the problem.

This is extremely frustrating. I dislike the new service they are using for payments. I do not get why they changed it - some waffle about "you creators asked for it". *I* certainly did not! Intrusive, extremely difficult to verify my identity, and now it is affecting my patrons - not just me. Not a fan. Not at all.

Oh, and I *just* got an email from Patreon wanting me to offer annual memberships, lol! Yeah, no. Why not let's fix your billing first.
