Hello there and welcome to the latest #content update from Digital Foundry. We have a longer public holiday weekend, so lots to cram into the available time - so let's get straight to it.

  • Alex has basically written off the concept of producing optimised settings for Dragon's Dogma 2, but there are certainly a range of settings recommendations for Horizon Forbidden West and with an assist from contributor Mohammed Rayan, we should have that #content available for you this week. We'll also have the equivalent PlayStation 5 settings too.

  • Tom has just polished up Rise of the Ronin on PlayStation 5 and will be moving onto HiFi Rush on PlayStation 5, framed within a more holistic look at Microsoft's approach to multiplatform development thus far.

  • John is working on a brand-new DF Retro episode, covering off his visit to Sunsoft in Japan. Yes, despite being quiet for so many years, the firm remained active and we have some amazing stuff to show you.

  • Oliver is back on his project taking a look at ray tracing on PC mobile devices, primarily Steam Deck. We've come a long way from my initial tests of running Marvel's Spider-Man under Windows, where the Deck just gave up and crashed!

  • Rich (ie me) continues on the handheld reviews in amongst the mountain of behind-the-scenes tasks. The benchmark database is building up now and I really want to get this out of the door, but there's still much to do. I'm thinking of framing this as a battle of the heavyweights: Lenovo Legion Go, AyaNeo Kun and Onexplayer 2 Pro.

We had a pretty big week last week - PS5 Pro, Horizon Forbidden West and Dragon's Dogma 2 were huge for us. I'm also expecting good things from the Rise of the Ronin coverage, but do let us know if there's anything you'd like us to take a look at! In the meantime, I hope you have a fantastic week!

Why has Alex written off the concept of producing optimized settings for Dragon's Dogma 2?

I imagine because it's in a state where there are none, and perf is likely to change drastically in the weeks and months to come.

Didn’t know you were working on any of the more niche handhelds. One thing I’m a little curious about is how far Portmaster et al have gotten. What kind of PC titles can we get to run on a very high end Android device like an Odin 2? There’s been a lot of coverage of it as an emulation device but comparatively little said on that front, so my guess is ‘not viable except for very old stuff’ but I still wonder exactly how far it could be pushed.
