Blue Star WIP 14 - Biotics Preview (Patreon)

So I originally put this together to share with my Patrons, but I am so disproportionately proud with how it came out, I decided to share it publicly.

This is a part of the action scene in the beginning of Episode 3, the first reveal of Liara’s using biotics.

The video itself is obviously highly work in progress, with only Liara herself being animated, and even then, not fully.

All in all, I probably spent around 3 hours on this 3-second scene. That time went into building the “biotic sphere” model - complete with “blob” flexes and being rigged to turn into a projectile - and two new particle systems. All of the animation is hand-keyed, not a drop of motion-capture in it.

Everything you see is done purely in Source Filmmaker - the only post-processing is color correction. I don’t like doing things in post, and so I try to make everything as “practical” as I possibly can - even the audio is done directly in Source Filmmaker.

This episode is definitely going to be my magnum opus of SFM work thus far, hands down - scenes, lighting, framing, animating, everything is just coming together so spectacularly.

I really think you guys and gals are going to enjoy it, for it’s sheer “cinematic” value, porn perspective aside. My goal is to make an episode that is respectable on its own merit, something that would be able to have the sex scene cut out (think Hollywood films) and it’d still stand on its own as a respectable piece of SFM cinematography.

And with every day of propress I make on this episode, the more and more likely that goal seems to me. It’s hard for me to overstate how ecstatic I am.
