Progress Report - October 24, 2022 (Patreon)

Hello, everyone!

The Gaige one-off is finally rendering out in 2160p! I just pressed the big red button on the pre-sex and sex sequences. The post-sex sequence finished rendering this morning.

Let's do some napkin math. The post-sex sequence was 140 seconds, rendered on my secondary machine, which renders at about 65% the speed of my main machine. It took about 16 hours to render 140 seconds, meaning that it'd take about 10.5 hours for my main machine to render that same time. That also comes to 0.115 hours per second of footage for my secondary machine, and 0.075 hours for my primary machine.

For tonight, I've set my main machine rendering the pre-sex sequence, which is about 100 seconds. That means that I can expect my main machine to finish its render in about 7.5 hours, or right about when I wake up.

The secondary machine has the Goliathan task of rendering out the main sex sequence, which is 300 seconds. That translates to 34.5 hours. In actuality, the main machine will be sharing that load once it finishes the pre-sex sequence. When the pre-sex render finishes, I expect the secondary machine to have rendered about 70 seconds, leaving 230 seconds to be rendered.

Doing some quick arithmetic yields that, once the pre-sex sequence is finished rendering, the secondary machine should render the final 90 seconds while the main machine renders the remaining 140 seconds - this yields further render times of 10.5  hours for each machine.

Which means, in total, I'm expecting the remaining pre-sex and sex sequences that are currently rendering to take about 19 hours total to render out in full-quality 2160p.

That is, of course, on top of the 16 hours of rendering that already finished. But still, 19 hours to render 6 minutes where it took 16 hours to render 2.5 minutes isn't bad at all. The power of having two machines rendering simultaneously, and one more powerful than the other at that.

Of course, the buck doesn't stop at just having the renders finished.

My delays with working on the Gaige video are unfortunate (remember when I had plans to release this video the first week of October? aka 4 weeks ago? Pepperidge Farms remembers...), though I've been slightly consoled by the fact that my sound designer has been having delays as well. Indeed, he only finally got his draft finished earlier today, as I was finishing up the sex sequence for rendering.

As a consequence, we haven't had the time to back-and-forth the final audio design. Then of course, there's the video editing that needs to be done, though that is extremely light as far as video editing goes.

All in all, while the renders will be done by Wednesday morning, I'm not expecting a release any earlier than Friday evening.
