Well, I just performed my first ever Patreon cull. It was extremely painful for me to do, but it's done.

All in all, I blocked 43 people who have been pledged for over a month, and yet had every single payment declined.

A few days ago, I sent a message out to 80 individuals, describing that their payments were declined. If the issues weren't resolved, or they didn't get to me, within 48 hours, then I promised I was going to remove them from my pledges.

A respectable amount of those 80 people got back to me, explaining their situation and resolving the payment if they were able to afford it, or gracefully pulling out if it became too much for them.

Of the 65 individuals who did not write back to me and/or resolve their payment issue, 43 of them were culled outright.

The remaining 22 individuals have had at least one payment go through, which suggests to me that it is possible they are experience some genuine issues. These 22 individuals will be receiving a second message from me shortly, and will be given an additional 48 hours to contact me or resolve the problem.

If you feel that you have been culled wrongly, please do not hesitate to message me, and we can talk about it.

I want to make it perfectly clear that I hold no ill will toward anyone being culled. This is an entirely impersonal operation: I simply do not need pledges that will not be fulfilled screwing up Patreon's statistics.

Just keeping you all apprised, since I personally believe in information transparency, especially in regards to things relating to finances.

Boy am I glad I figured out how to fix the problem before I got cut off. That would have sucked if you blocked me.

I'm glad you got it figured out, too. I hate blocking people - especially the "no longer able to contact you" aspect of it. I don't want to totally cut myself off from these people: I just want to kick them off my Patreon.
