Hello, everyone!

This is post 1 of 2 on this subject. The other post will be for those who already have access to the current "1080p early-access" tier, so I can separately get the opinions of those who are currently affected by this decision.

Some weeks ago, I made a post about revising my Patreon rewards, and asked for input. You all had some great suggestions and valuable insights. I have, for the most part, decided on my new rewards. If you look carefully at the list below, though, you'll see something not quite right...

  • $1 - Project Synopses & Screenplays. I've decided to kick this down from $2 to $1 because, honestly, I don't post them nearly as much as I should. That's partly because I am a lazy motherfucker, and partly because I really just don't make them that often. On average, just one every two months - and with 2020's schedule, that's going to change to one every three months. So even though it's $1 a month, this translates to $2 (and later $3) per text, which is really what I had in mind when I made the tier to begin with.
  • $2 - Posters, Loops, and Practice. I am consolidating the current $3 (watermarked loops), $7 (unwatermarked loops), and $10 (photosets) tiers into a single $2 tier. The reason for this is simple: I just don't really make loops or photosets anymore, and so it seems absurd to me to ask for up to $10/mo for things that I just don't provide. The bulk of this new tier is going to be screen recordings of practice animations, which were the focus of a preview post & Tweet and received overwhelmingly warm support for. I'm just lumping the posters and loops into it for free, on the rare occasion I actually make them. Right now, I am eyeballing posting them every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening, once this tier goes live (aiming for mid-October). We'll see how that schedule works out, though. Expect it to be adjusted to being less frequent.
  • $5 - Progress Reports & Previews. The current WIPs tier, though renamed to more accurately reflect what they've been for the past year or so. Posted every Thursday during a Short month, and every time some eventful milestone is reached during a Long month. For the former, expect the first formal BAS Liz WIP post this Thursday; for the latter, I am hoping to have the first Progress Report for Hiveship ready before the end of the year. Ordy and I are close to finishing the story outline; I am hoping we will be able to finish it up in November.
  • $10 - The A-Side of the 1080p/Early Access Split. This is what today's posts are about. I have long been considering splitting the current "1080p early-access" tier into "1080p scheduled-access" and "720p early-access". The problem is, I don't know which to put where.
  • $15 - The B-Side of the 1080p/Early Access Split. Whichever one is considered more valuable to the general public will go here. That way, people who are interested in the less-valuable one and don't consider it worth the current $15 have the potential to instead join in and get it for $10. Some people will drop from $15 down to $10 to get it, but I am hoping that the influx of new people who previously found the $15 too prohibitive will offset the outflux of current patrons who aren't interested in whatever the new $15 will provide.
  • $20 - Awesome Patron. This is staying where it is, just because experience has taught me that people who are just genuinely supportive and aren't looking for any particular reward prefer to have a specific tier to donate to. A "Donate what you want" option is more likely to be considered too much work.
  • $50 - Hyperawesome Patron. This is staying where it is for the same reason. Maybe one day I'll be able to find actual rewards for these two tiers, but as it is, they're just here for people who are really supportive and philanthropic.

Did you spot the incompletion?

This is what these two polls are to attempt to resolve: to figure out which of the "1080p" and "early access" elements in the current "1080p early-access" tier are more highly valued, and which it would be smarter for me to put down to the $10 tier.

I would absolutely love to hear your opinion, both in the comments below, and in this poll right here! If you are a Patron current at or above the currently "1080p early-access" tier, please refer to the next post here and vote in that poll, rather than this one!

Thank you all very much for your input!

I've always wanted to join to get access to your 1080p content but 15$ really didnt seem worth it especially when compared to other great creators who have their higher res content at usually a 10$ range and anything higher than that doesn't seem worth it, as well as the fact that I'm sure you'll get more income/pledges for making your 1080p content available at 10$ at least for me.

I would consider $15 level if the content was 4K and not 1K. I'm not so much in a hurry that early access is ever of major interest to me.

If you do retain an "early access" perk, then consider extending the early access period to something much longer. IMO 5 days is a small time to wait, therefore the current "early access" incentive has no value. Maybe 14 days would be better as an incentive.

Haha!!

In theory it's a good idea. However, someone pointed out to me that the Early Access tier is the most volatile of my tiers - a lot of people pump-and-dump to it, pledging to gain access, downloading the file, and then immediately canceling their pledge. Luckily my Patreon is set to charge-up-front (specifically because I was losing hundreds of dollars to people doing this), so I still get their money when they pump-and-dump. But for people who pump-and-dump, changing the window wouldn't make a difference. 5 days early, 14 days early, 30 days early - as soon as it's available, they pledge, download, and revoke. In this case, the only people who lose are the non-early-access, who now instead of waiting 5 days after the video was ready for release, now have to wait 14 days or 30 days or whatever the new window is. It's a very vexing dilemma.
