Near the beginning, Nessa says she got involved with the boss of Harrods - that would be Mohammed al Fayed (the "crackin' little fella") then she says he tried palming her off with his son (Dodi Fayed) who suddenly went quiet... that's probably because he died in a car crash with Princess Diana in 1997. In fact I wonder how many of Nessa's other weird asides are references I don't get!

so glad you’re enjoying the show, it’s so nice to watch again.

Also, first time I have noticed this - that's not Paddington station (which goes to Wales) - it's Marylebone (which goes to Birmingham) but they have just cheekily stuck a "London Paddington" sign on the wall! I noticed because the train Stacey gets on is the exact same as the one I've been commuting on for the last 3 years, and I don't think they go much past High Wycombe. Anyway I guess it's because Marylebone is much smaller/quieter than Paddington so it was easier to close off a couple of platforms for filming. Also I suppose it looks quite like Paddington if you don't pay too much attention!

I love how real all these characters feel, they all have such great chemistry together. Especially Gavin, Pam, Mick and Smithy. You genuinely feel like they are a family. Dawn and Pete are hilarious too, so dramatic like most people are in this show😂

BR90s

Some city train stations especially in London have armed police there or on standby due to terrorist threat or security risks. This is because of the 7/7 (7th July) bombings in central London via trains and buses.

Michael Harrop

After the army of trolls told him he would hate it and send him messages asking for it to be removed. Vindication against some of the genuinely unpleasant people in this group😂

James Aston

This was before 7/7 but we have a history of threats of terrorism on public transport dating back to the IRA threats in the 70s up until modern day Islamic terrorism. In London especially it's not unusual to see armed police in train stations

James Aston

Sorry my mistake, I thought it was in 2007. Was actually 2005. My bad

Caine

Transport police pulled the mad guns on me once, I was on a train where a few people got stabbed and the train got rushed by police at the next station.

You will like Pete and Dawn (the neighbours from the pub) - they do come back as regular characters. Also a fun fact the character surnames of the families are West, Shipman and Sutcliffe - all high profile serial killers in the UK!

Kieran B

Gah you missed Smithy’s toilet brush comment when he was trying to get Nessa to remember him. In terms of just leaving work it was probably around lunch but work in the UK is generally a little more flexible than the US

Kieran B

One other joke to mention you’d probably miss but most of the characters surnames are those of British serial killers…

Who invented the plug? I proper belly laughed at that. Such a random question 😂

Thomas McDonald

It's even less subtle with Pete and Dawn than the others. He's literally called Peter Sutcliffe, hah.

CatsandCrafts

I commented, along with others, last week or a bit before, that it’s not the title characters who are the funniest necessarily. From Doris in the first episode telling Stacey getting a ‘cheeky finger’ was ok on a first date, right away these funny supporting characters make the show. You missed the toilet brush mention as it was said quietly. I’m sure you can work it out though based on Smithy and Nessa’s intimate session taking place in the en-suite 😂 And the heightened security came after the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London. Hey to you, Tay, and the fur babies! 👋💕

AfterWorkReactions

LOL I agree. This is the type of show to me that every character is important and the show wouldn't be as good without them. That is a big deal for smaller characters because on some other shows side characters don't get good lines or are not pertinent to the plot. Thank you, have a great week!

AfterWorkReactions

LOL that is hilarious, I will have to tell Tay she knows about serial killers alot more than me. I know she just watched that Dennis Nilsen show that came on recently.

No-one picking up on Ness talking about the big boss of Harrods? Alright Josh, the joke is that Harrods was owned by Muhammed Al-Faed. He was also the owner of Fulham FC. His son was Dodi Al-Faed who was with Princess Di in the crash that killed them both. Great bit of writing, that.

If you are doing controversial shows like Gavin and Stacey, why not do Jim'll Fix It?

Jon Johnson

Jumping the barriers and the police showing up with guns was in bad taste given what happened to the Brazilian guy - someone correct me but was this after? I don't think it was. Josh, look up 'Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes'

What is controversial about Gavin and Stacey? Are you aware what happened behind the scenes at Jim'll Fix It? How does Gavin n stacey in any way compare to a show starring one of Britain's most evil predators???

Josip Buretic

Another good episode. 👍🏻👍🏻

I think it's trying to highlight 7/7 bombings witch was done by the same group that took part in 9/11 2 blew up on underground trains one missed his train so blew up a bus instead I could be wrong but I'm sure that's the reason for the security with this episode coming out in like what 2007 not to far from the bombings
