Spoiler Free: This episode was not as funny as the first. There were funny moments mainly because of the faces Ricky would make. I don't have much else to say about this episode. It was just ok, but I am confident it will pick up steam.

I remember this one as being fairly decent, there are a few celebrities and references that are very British in a few episodes that may not be well known (or known at all) to wider audiences do that potentially makes them less funny when the jokes revolve around the perception of them and their real backgrounds

Extras is Ricky's MASTERPIECE. They call it ''taking le piss' over in France but yeah..... They can't even speak English.

Bit of cultural information you may not have picked up on. The other actor Steve's character is an agent for is Shawn Williamson, but he is only known for his role of Barry on Eastenders. Andy calls him Shawn, his actual name. But his own agent just calls him Barry like everyone else 😂

This is one of my favourites. I think it would help if you knew who these British celebrities are. I think you'll probably enjoy later episodes if you knew who Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Barry from Eastenders were. Still enjoyed your reaction though :)

Good point. I can't wait for 'Life's Too Short', but if you never heard of Keith Chegwni, Les Dennis and the bloke out of Eastenders you're just wasting your time.

“How does he keep a straight face?” He barely does, same with anything he does. Some of the Extras outtakes are superb, worth checking out when you’ve finished the series

Katherine Parkinson started doing comedy with the Oxford Revue when she was at the University of Oxford. Ironically one her roles before this was in an episode of Casualty. She did this and started a main/recurring role in Doc Martin in the same year (2005), and got the role in IT Crowd in 2006 (or at least that’s when it was first broadcast)

Yep - I made that comment when Extras came up on the poll a little while ago; Andy and the main characters are funny but A. Most of the “celeb” actors in each episode are either known mainly/only in the UK or are the bigger Hollywood stars like Kate Winslet and B. This is definitely not trying to make its audience laugh every 30 seconds like Friends or TBBT or many other American-style comedy shows. It’s more like “Catastrophe” than an American comedy in that it’s VERY funny but the laughs are less frequent and are more carefully crafted and timed.

This episode was good a quick background on Ross Kemp he was in some crappy soap drama that has been running on the BBC for decades (Eastenders) he played a hard man in it with his on screen brother (The Mitchell Brothers). After he stopped acting he went around the world similar to Karl Pilkington's Idiot abroad for a show on Sky called Ross Kemp on Gangs basically a documentary series. It's actually a very good doc series but it's serious so not really a thing to react to, but well worth a watch IMO lots of clips on youtube if you want to see what it's about. Anyway due to that and his acting carer he has a bit of a tough man image. This episode was pretty good the last scene could have been written a little better. Episode 4 is great and super cringe, episode 5 is a little bit like this one in terms of cultural references, after that it goes from strength to strength it's almost as if they cracked the formula and everything just works flawlessly including the Christmas Special after series 2 I can't see you not falling in love with this show when you've watched it all. There is a lot of heart to this show but that becomes more prevalent in series 2 Lastly that clip you watched with Ricky in the hotel room phoning agents he ended up getting Orlando Bloom which is S02E01

This is one of those shows that ages so well when you go to rewatch it. There are so many subtle faces or words from Ricky that make even this episode hilarious to me. It's not the funniest one but it still gets me so much. Secret. Army. Soldiers.

Maybe it didn’t help that you don’t really know the Celebs. You have to bear in mind that they are all playin exaggerated versions of themselves or a “public perception” version. Keep at it, you’ll grow to love it I’m sure. :)

That's the thing with Ricky Gervais. He only ever makes 2 seasons and a special and that's it. After Life is the first time ever he'll be doing a 3rd season to something. His philosophy is end on a high, quality over quantity and don't dilute a TV series until the public don't want it anymore. After each season you should react to the outtakes, you always get loads of them with Ricky and they're hilarious

This is funnier if you grew up with Ross Kemp on TV doing all the hard man and army stuff.

For context Ross Kemp (bald actor) is famous for playing a tough guy gangsta type in the UK's most popular soap Eastenders aswell as play an S.A.S. soldier in a military drama. He also filmed documentaries where he would meet up with street gangs around the world. Vinnie Jones (Juggernaught from X Men 3) for my money would have played a better Billy the Butcher in The Boys, but Karl Urban has more geek cred.

Also the actor that entered the room during the meeting with the agent everyone calls Barry, as that was his character in the same soap Ross Kemp was in. He got killed of on the show and didnt do much afterwards, so thats the running joke and no one ever calls him by his real name, ist always "Barry from Eastenders"

I agree though, I can't tell you how many shows I have stopped watching because I don't find them interesting anymore. I think it is good to end on a high note. I will check those out to man =]

I did enjoy this episode. Usually I get at lease 1 person explaining a joke from a clip or show if i didn't understand.

I preferred this episode,but I know all the actors and shows they have been in...would be hard for someone who diesnt know them to find it as good.
