July 1985 was an historic month in the legacy of Jim Crockett Promotions. We see the spectacle that is the first ever Great American Bash, an entertainment extravaganza involving live music, stunts, fireworks and more wrapped around a huge wrestling card in an outdoor stadium setting - where the World Champion would arrive via helicopter!

Plus, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express come to JCP and set the promotion on fire as they make their mark immediately, winning the tag titles on their first night in the promotion. The Babydoll/Dusty 30-days stipulation winds up getting JCP headlines, while the Flair/Landel ‘Battle of the Nature Boys’ heats up and leads to record setting gates.

There are huge opportunities for growth, new revenue avenues with the home video market, and the realization that perhaps JCP can exist without the NWA.

I vividly remember going to many JCP shows at the old Greenville Memorial Auditorium with my late father. Ric wrestled Buddy Landell one night and got a folding chair and put it in the corner at ringside then forced JJ Dillon to sit in it like a child lol. Crazy they were on the same side a few months later. Great memories!
