Misty sat on the plush couch in her sister's lavish apartment in Kuala Lumpur, watching Katie as she nimbly moved around the expanse of the modern-style living room. Misty had just arrived from Seattle, her concern mounting on the long flight to Malaysia. Katie had moved here after quitting her nursing job in a dramatic career shift, and Misty couldn't shake her worry about this drastic change. She spent years trying to get into her nursing program, and the thought of wasting all that time made the older sister wonder what was going on.

Misty remembered the tender-hearted Katie who volunteered at food drives, who donated her modest nurse's salary to charities, who helped others whenever she could. But this Katie, who shopped endlessly, dined extravagantly, and lived in this upscale apartment, was a different woman. She regularly had her nails done, booked expensive full body massages, and flirted with the locals at the nearby gym. Of course, Malaysia was a more affordable place to live than Seattle, but Katie's spending was on a whole other level.

"Isn't this place amazing?" Katie beamed as she spun around the room. "And don't worry about the money, Misty. I promise, it's not going to be an issue. I don’t want you spending a penny while you’re here."

Misty frowned, her worry deepening. Her little sister had been making such statements ever since she moved. And while Katie had amassed an impressive amount of wealth, the source was always elusive. Katie had invested everything in dividend stocks, but how had she gotten so much to invest in the first place?

"I just don't want you to get into any trouble, Katie," Misty said with her protective instincts kicking in. “You’re living alone in a completely foreign country. I don’t even know how you learned Malay so quickly. But you could get taken advantage of easily if you’re not careful.” Katie just smiled, a serene and confident smile, and Misty found herself entranced by it. There was an innocence to that smile, an almost childlike assurance that made Misty sigh. Was it possible that Katie had just stumbled into good fortune? Was she just being overprotective?

In an attempt to distract her from her worries, Katie suggested they go shopping. "There's a beautiful silk dress in a boutique downtown that I think would look stunning on you," she said, pulling Misty from the couch. “I think we should go check it out. Once you walk around, you’ll realize just how safe it is.”

For a moment, Misty contemplated pressing further, probing deeper into the source of Katie's wealth. But seeing Katie's innocent smile, she decided against it. She was here to visit her sister, not to interrogate her. So, with a deep breath and a small smile, Misty took Katie's hand and allowed her to guide her through the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur. As they meandered through the vibrant city, she looked at her sister, the late afternoon sun dancing in her silky hair, her laughter mingling with the city's symphony. This was the Katie she remembered, the Katie she loved.

And for now, that was enough.
