**SPRINTERED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Kuon's betrayal is amazingly NOT over, but hopefully one thing that is are the shackles locking away Chigiri's potential! As we see his backstory and what led him to be so cautious about participating in Blue Lock fully...

...but leave it to Isagi to get Chigiri into the "harem" and now wanting to become Japan's "Next Top Striker," too! Oh, and who be these new characters?! This episode was greeeeeaaaat!

I’ve been waiting for this episode!! Love your analysis of Chigiri’s thought process and development and comparison to other sports anime characters with injuries. Yeah, like with Teppei, Chris, and Sousuke (Free), they still were in rehab or needed surgery, while chigiri was shown to finish his physical therapy and was *physically* ready to return to playing soccer. But it was mainly for mental or psychological reasons why Chigiri chose not to play to his fullest. So, the injured chars from other anime who were held back by their present injuries and fear of overstraining themselves to the point of ruining their career made me sometimes wince at the irresponsibility of their decision to prioritize playing in the present rather than in the long run. But with Chigiri, since he’s been diligent (partially because of his fear) about rehab and recovery. I like how the dilemma is more psychological and philosophical than physical. We learned that Chigiri’s a genius, and we’re rooting for him to overcome his mental block and realize what’s important to him and how he wants to live his life. A few eps ago, we saw Isagi be reborn in the game vs Team Y by understanding and utilizing his weapon. I love how Chigiri’s “rebirth” this episode is different from Isagi’s since Chigiri learned to have faith in his current self and accept how it’s different from his “invincible” self before the injury. We’ve seen other BLLK characters say becoming the best striker or Japan winning the WC is their dream, but I love that Chigiri takes it a step further. It’s not only his dream, but it also makes up his IDENTITY—he lives for the joy of outrunning ppl in soccer. It’s what an ego’s all about—your identity and desires on a primal level, not swayed by external factors like you mentioned like fame and accolades which were what Kira and the Wanima bros were focused on rather than playing soccer itself. Chigiri wasn’t concerned about whether ppl saw him as a genius or about getting special treatment and he didn’t care about hierarchies. He had so much confidence in himself and his talent when he was young, and it was cathartic to see him use his weapon again and discover this newfound confidence. A side note: I like the detail of Chigiri’s running talent resulting from his leg muscles developing in a unique way. I think it adds a touch of realism. Something cool is that there’s a clip of a professional soccer player in an actual game passing to himself in a similar way to Chigiri. Here’s the link (no BLLK spoilers at all) and the clip’s from 0:03-0:08 if you’re interested in watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv6FkGPgv6U The OST was banging this ep, esp. Chigiri’s theme when he was running. Also the sound design of the jet engine noise and sonic booms. The beginning of Chigiri’s theme sounds very close to the beginning of The Flash Theme, which is really cool! I like how multiple times in the episode, characters like Kuon, Connie, and Kunigami said to Isagi, “a soccer team is made up of 11 players. You can’t do it alone.” Isagi was becoming more desperate towards the end and tried to do everything himself, which was shown to fail as one of the Wanima bros stole the ball from him and said that Isagi’s dribbling sucks. So, it was kinda egotistical for Isagi to try that since it was beyond his ability, but I still appreciate his drive to try to do everything he can to win, which inspired Chigiri. When Chigiri grabbed Isagi’s hand!! It’s like they’re both in agreement that they believe in themselves that they’ll become the best striker in the world. When I watched this ep, Chigisagi reminded me of Tododeku, the episode in season 2 where Deku helped push Todoroki to use his fire quirk in their fight against each other. Isagi and Deku wanted Chigiri and Todoroki to use their full potential despite their past. I was like, “Aww I love this friendly rivalry Isagi and Chigiri have.” This ep broke away from some tropes, and I loved your analysis on how the concept of talent was portrayed and on how there wasn’t the usual power of the nakama. Btw a crunchyroll translation thing. We’ve seen the characters use a lot of different words to call Chigiri girly in the subtitles, but the japanese wording consistently uses “ojou” with honorifics sometimes. The subtitles translates “ojou” (which means “young woman” or “princess” in japanese) to “missy,” “young lady,” and only sometimes “princess.” I and others wished CR just stuck with “princess” because that sounds the best. Gin already wrote in a comment the explanation for additional time in soccer, so I won’t repeat that. But yeah, it’s an actual soccer rule, no Ego bias there haha! I love that the extras at the end of the eps are called “Additional Time.” It’s so fitting. I already talked so much about Chigiri aldkj but now it’s time to talk briefly about the OTHER main event of the ep: REONAGI!! Team V’s introduction! I felt bad for Kuon when he was getting beat up by Team W, and Isagi even tried to step in and stop them (and Kuni stepped in to protect Isagi and his team 💪), but Kuon really means nothing to me now after he doubled down on his betrayal by giving an offer to Team V smh, which Team V rejects naturally. Mikage Reo is voiced by Yuuma Uchida - Fushiguro Megumi (JJK), Kyo Soma (Fruits Basket), Ash Lynx (Banana Fish), Ritsuka Uenoyama (Given), and Masato Hanzawa (Sasaki to Miyano). Nagi Seishiro is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki - Mahito (JJK), Yuki Soma (Fruits Basket), Haruka Nanase (Free!), Suna Rintaro (Haikyuu), and Akira Kagiura (Sasaki to Miyano). Tsurugi Zantetsu is voiced by Kazuyuki Okitsu - Hatori Soma (Fruits Basket), Fat Gum (MHA), Suguru Daisho (Haikyuu), and Atsushi Hayama (Miri’s biological father in Buddy Daddies). This series is continuing to go hard with the top-notch VA talent for real. It’s amazing that the Fruba characters Kyo, Yuki, and Hatori are reunited in Blue Lock through the VAs! I can definitely hear Reo’s voice in Megumi and Nagi’s voice in Mahito when watching JJK season 2, it’s amazing. You made some Free! comparisons this episode, and Haru’s VA is now here!! Yuuma and Shimazaki are two of my favorite VAs, so I was so happy about this voice cast. The contrast between the fire and passion of Isagi and Chigiri earlier this ep and the nonchalance of Team Z is great. Ok my first impressions of the new characters. Team Z’s introduction is so goofy despite them being hyped up to be the top team in the building, I love it. Nagi is sleeping with a fork with a steak piece in hand and Reo’s petting his hair with his feet on the table, who later gives Nagi a piggyback ride when Nagi asks him to. I love how intimate and comfortable and shameless they are. I was like, “It feels like they’re in an established relationship, like a married couple.” I was immediately shipping them. And there’s Zantetsu who initially seems like a smartass, but then he says “Did I use those words right?” and deliberates about whether eating leftover steak would make him look like a simpleton. Love that Zantetsu decides to eat the food anyways. My first impression was “I love them already!” Yeahh Zantetsu looks like Leorio (HxH) and Maes Hughes (FMAB)! I thought of the Reonagi-Murahimu comparison when I watched KNB so I’m happy to see that you immediately thought of that too. I love your deduction of Nagi being NOT lame and boring because Reo said he doesn’t like lame and boring people and Reo seems to like Nagi aljdla. Overall I enjoyed hearing your initial thoughts on these new characters. Also, love your Nagi impression lol. I was too enamored by the Reonagi to even consider Nagisagi as a ship. When I watched this ep, my first impression of their relationship was that Nagi was going to be Isagi's foil and main rival. They've got the black (dark blue) and white hair colors. And the name similarities omg you picking up on that lmao. Nagisagi is such a catchy ship name, that's all I'll say for now. This additional time was when I started shipping Kunigiri! It’s neat that we learn Kunigami has an older sister and younger sister. Another similarity I can make to Kagami is that Kagami lives with Alex who’s kinda like an older sister, and Kunigami actually has sisters.

Rewatched this just now to start my week off right - immaculate vibes for the reaction/discussion - I'd say it's the Kuon-effect. Please also can SPC be brought into other shows 'cause the possibilities are endless, could have SPC-potential of a show or SPC-coefficient for a viewer's likelihood to ship. From this episode specifically though, I really wanted to point to the OST, which is amazing overall, but Chigiri's theme was the first to really catch my ear. Linking to track (the image is static and no spoilers, the whole theme plays out in ep 7, comments on the video are off as well if someone wants to go to the page). Jun Murayama is the composer. It is excellent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FPCT9Fqk88 Looking forward to next week! 💙

Yayyyy, thank you for the kind words and comment! Hahahaha -- THE SPC COEFFICIENT! Muahahaha! The OST is really nice! And yes, Chigiri's theme is great -- thank you for the link to it! :D Yay! I appreciate that! And YES, looking forward to next week! It's gonna be funnnn! :)

Ahhhh, thank you for the kind words and comment! Yesss, the mental fear that Chigiri had to not play soccer for fear of getting hurt again! I definitely agree that it’s more psychological than physical and that does help us root for him to not be held down by his fear and LIVE his life! That’s a great paragraph about Chigiri and his ego and sense of self – it could be viewed as a toxic thing to have something like soccer be their identity, but here, it’s portrayed as a good thing. I love that idea that he just wants to play and having faith in his current self to do it! Oooohh, thank you for the link! That’s so cool!! I agree, the OST was amazing this go around! I loved it! The connection to the Flash would make sense, wouldn’t it? What superhero would that make Isagi? 😛 That is true; Isagi was getting a bit egotistical and it was showing to not be effective at the end of the game before Chigiri stepped up; I agree that I like the show hasn’t completely said that players can’t win as a team, but rather they need to be able to not be “reliant” on their team to win. I can soooooo see the TodoDeku vibes from Chisagi and Isagi! YES! That’s great! Chigiri being the “Princess” is great! Does that make Kagami his Knight? 😛 The extras at the end of the episode being “Additional Time!” OOOOOOH, that makes sense now! REONAGI. Oh, I love them already. The Va’s, the attitudes, the design. *Chef’s Kiss* already! Oohhh, Zantetsu’s VA has the range as well! They really are a top notch group! But yes, Team V is already threatening and they haven’t done ANYTHING yet. But yes, ReoNagi are shameless, lovey-dovey, and I’m shipping them so hard! I was shipping NagiIsagi for a hot second, but noooooo, ReoNagi is too good! But I do like the idea of Nagi being the foil/main rival for Isagi because they are so different! And yessss, the tie that Kunigami has sisters to Kagami having a “figurative” one in KNB is so perfect! That VA is type cast in sports anime…perhaps? Perhaps. Either way, I’m so excited for this coming week! But go Chigiri! Glad they got their groove back! 😀

Answering your question that resulted from Chigiri's theme connection to the Flash, I don't know what superhero Isagi would be, but we do know that Kunigami wants to be soccer superhero, sooo

I just like the idea that certain members of Blue Lock could come together and be the Avengers hahaha!
