2024-02-18 05:10:25 I just caught up with your last reactions right when you dropped this I’m excited. This is low key top contender for anime or the year already in my books.

2024-02-18 05:22:18 I mean everyone in that wing should know who he is (not w/e fake eunuch identity he has in the rear palace, but his actual identity as the younger brother of the Emperor (and thus the Crown Prince as the Emperor rn has no male offspring, only 1 female offspring, ergo he is the 2nd in line to the throne if Big E pepsi's for some reason), hence why he has all that office work shit etc in the outer palace, along w/ those bougie af own quarters w/ inner courtyard etc), it's not rly a secret. So while his RP as jinshi in the Rear Palace is done, it's not like any of the bitches in there would see him outside the rear palace to begin with, and vice versa for non-eunuchs in regards to the outer palace (the eunuchs mostly stay in the rear palace after all, even though they do have some type of communal housing somewhere between the rear & outer palace, just like how all the menial laborers like maids/cleaners/whatever also have. After all he's quite publicly wearing the square w/ the dragon image, something exclusive to the Imperial Family (the dragon & quilin (a type of divine horse I think?) are traditionally IRL Imperial symbols after all. You'd likely be tortured to death if you were busted using either of the 2 symbols yourself, even on accident)

I mean this is like what upper middle tier Ritual, the highest grade can literally only be performed by THE Emperor traditionally speaking (usually these high-tier Rituals would be concentrated on stuff like Lunar New Year or w/e have you, big boi shit like that). Also someone else pointed out on Reddit something I missed, that the designers fucked up the amount of tassels on the ceremonial headpiece (I think they said there's 12, but traditionally the highest amount can only be used by the Emperor, and it caps at 9. 8 is reserved for the Crown Prince (so Jinshi in this instance), while the rest can wear max 7 tassels total. Then it goes lower & lower according to ceremonial/nobility hierarchy, but those start to become more numerous than the big boi 9-7 variants have, which total in maybe a handful in all), but I suppose it would be an easy mistake for w/e historical advisor they have to pull up visual reference (the palace layout & other shit like that is almost 1:1 for IRL stuff like the Forbidden Palace, albeit the architecture, clothing & other stuff are a mix & match period wise of course, since we see them from all over the different dynasties spanning centuries IRL at different parts of visuals) given its relative minor detail nature, especially since it's a numerical mistake & not a visual mistake per se, since organic brains suck ass at numbers vs more visual generic data like that

2024-02-18 07:39:16 So someone stole the ceremonial pulley block. TWO managers got food poisoning and that clerk got demoted, an explosion at a different warehouse to cover up the theft, it was replaced by the metal craftsman with a lower melting point, their father got taken out, just so Jinshi could get assassinated? That is some 3D-chess level trap-setting. 31:30 Nah, she only cares about Jinshi so she could get the ox bezoar. ;)

I think Lakan being surprised is more because how Jinshi is so concerned and worried for Maomao that he princess carries her out himself and not asked anyone else to carry her. For someone of Jinshi's status, he will asked servants to do the carrying and not himself doing the carrying. He doesn't expect Jinshi to do that. He more or less already deducted or got his confirmation who Jinshi is so that's not a surprise even if it was proven. And I'll bet the guard is pissing his pants now after seeing Lakan vouch for Maomao, an incident really happens inside, and Jinshi carries the girl he bashes out personally.

Oliver

I gotta say while i was angry at the guard royalty was inside and he was literal the only one standing in her way once she got inside i am surprised no one stopped her

and here i thought denken and friends were screwed fighting frieren, but that guard..........man hes screwed bad........

2024-02-18 16:38:27 I thought Lakan was just shocked at maomao getting hurt, like if you let your daughter do something and she come back hurt, blaming your self

ya that guard probably shoud start running now. considering the two people he pissed off hurting maomao

dash12321

at the end there, maomao's prolly concussed as hell from the guard hit, just coming off an adrenaline rush, and going into shock. her thoughts are so sluggish and awkward by then, I'm amazed she even stayed aware enough to notice her leg and think of stitching

2024-02-19 05:41:51 also something I noticed watching a second time, but I'm pretty sure lakan personally led maomao to investigate every incident related to the assassination attempt. the metalworker and the two poisonings of the managers were both mentioned to jinshi by him, and only the warehouse wasn't specifically guided by him (though it was a fairly big incident, she was pretty much already guaranteed to investigate it) the exact ritual piece was also shown in a previous episode, though I didn't realize what it was until rewatching it.

Considering the culture, hes probably getting a commendation for doing his duty despite all the odds. But yea probably then gets assasinated by Lakan.

Barry

I mean theres a chance the Emperor sides with the guard on that situation. We don't really know much about him.

Barry

I read it that way too, Lakan was the one who set her on the trail to solve the mystery and she got hurt badly. Whether he was the one who made the plot, I really doubt it. Part of me thinks hes actually trying to make Jinshi the Emperor since he sees him as a better prospect. The mans a gamer who wants to min max the political system, thats my read after this episode.

Barry

This is actually one of my favourite parts of the episode, the severity of a concussion is often laughed off in media.

Barry

Yea, he definitely wanted her on the trail, we just don't know why just yet. Maybe shes just a better strategist than him, like her mother was, and he needed her to solve it. I'm pretty sure the only 100% thing we know about Lakan is that he has a great eye for talent.

Barry

This show just leaves me with my jaw on the floor, its the anime equivalent of House of the Dragon for me.

paladar blade

I believe what Lakan was showing when Jinshi carried Maomao out was an expression of pure rage, at least in his case, cause he already saw one man hit his daughter in front of him and now he's watching another carrying his injured kid who has lost consciousness. I mean yeah, the guy did do some messed up stuff to her mother, but he does care for Maomao. At least in his own way.

Daniel Borrego

I dont know. I would think the emperor would at least try to keep up that he doesnt want jin dead if that were the case. Having both lakan and jin pissed at him probably wont end well. Add to that the emperor potentially, then id say hes a goner
