They did use this technique before...twice actually lol. The jailer guy Q and technically its what Uryu did in Soul Society way back but he called it something else

Shinji only used his shikai against Aizen. He couldn't use his bankai because it would also turn his allies on each other as well. This is the first time we are seeing it, this part wasn't even in the manga.

I think they forgot they saw the Quincy Voll Stern Dich in cour 1. Quilge used it against Ichigo.

And we saw that Quincy that fought Ichigo in Huecho Mundo go voll stern dich. We even saw it in this episode with Urahara talking about him.

A couple things to note 1. Shinji only used his shikai before now and this is the first time seeing him use or talk about it 2. Voll stern dich was used by the Quincy with the letter “J” the Jailer back in hueco Mundo and also by the guy that took out the new captain commanders eye 3. As kisuke stated the hollow power added to everyone with Bankai is a temporary effect and the residual is just so that the Quincy’s can’t take them anymore

The Quincy's equivalent of Bankai/Resureccion, the Vollstandig, is something we've seen once before. The Quincy that Ichigo fought in the first season used it.

honestly this was the highlight of the episode for me but they didn't notice. they probably misunderstood shinji power thus confusing his shikai and bankai. they also seem to miss that 9 times out of 10 unless you hear the words bankai then don't assume someone is using it. for us manga readers this made us very happy seeing shinji bankai since this bankai is one of the few that has restrictions preventing the user from using it freely because its broken.

None of the vizords had their Bankai taken, the Quincy didn't even try, most likely to not give away their weakness against hollow powers.

I’m not sure but they probably could have stolen the vizords bankai before the pill because they were infected with hollow but not there bankai now their bankai is infected with hollow not sure if that’s how it works

I think they could take the Vizards Bankai, their hollow and shinigami powers are separate and in opposition to each other in balance. Ichigo built different his shinigami and hollow powers are one and the same. The pill is quite literally a vaccine. The mild hoolowfication of the bankai is just like the mild symptoms you might get from a real life vaccine and will go away with time. Urahara specifically has experience with this kind of thing from saving Masaki with Isshin

They can take Vizards bankai because they could take an Arrancar Resureccion. It would just have a negative effect on them. Taking them wouldn’t be an issue otherwise.

i dont think they used it either. They were older captains so they were plenty strong without it plus they were more careful. Its the younger captains that got their bankai stolen cuz they were either reckless or like Byakuya, had to try it to see wtf it was about
